Job Summary The Middle/High School Language Arts Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality, engaging, Christ-centered instruction in English Language Arts for students in grades 6-12. The teacher will inspire students to become effective readers, writers, speakers, listeners, and critical thinkers while developing a lifelong appreciation for literature and communication. The teacher is expected to maintain a structured, positive, and academically rigorous classroom that promotes excellence, character development, and spiritual growth. Instruction shall align with Florida academic standards, the school's curriculum, and the mission of Providence Christian Preparatory School. The teacher is expected to work collaboratively with administrators, colleagues, parents, and students while demonstrating professionalism, integrity, flexibility, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Instruction and Curriculum Plan and deliver engaging daily lessons aligned with the school's curriculum and instructional framework. Teach reading comprehension, literature, vocabulary, grammar, writing, spelling, research, speaking, and listening skills. Integrate biblical principles and a Christian worldview into classroom instruction where appropriate. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic needs of students. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies including: Direct instruction Guided practice Cooperative learning Small group instruction Independent learning Project-based learning Technology integration Develop lessons that encourage higher-order thinking, creativity, and problem solving. Foster a love of reading through exposure to quality literature and independent reading opportunities. Encourage students to become effective communicators through writing, presentations, debates, and discussions. Writing Instruction Provide systematic instruction in: Narrative writing Informational writing Expository writing Persuasive writing Argumentative writing Research writing Literary analysis Grammar and mechanics Sentence structure Editing and proofreading MLA formatting (high school) Research skills Citation of sources Digital literacy Reading Instruction Teach students to: Analyze literature Interpret informational texts Identify author's purpose Determine themes Analyze plot development Evaluate evidence Compare texts Interpret figurative language Expand academic vocabulary Increase reading fluency Improve comprehension strategies Assessment Responsibilities Prepare and administer quizzes, tests, projects, essays, presentations, and other assessments. Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress. Maintain accurate grade records. Provide timely feedback on student work. Analyze student performance data to guide instruction. Prepare students for standardized assessments including MAP Growth and applicable state assessments. Classroom Management Maintain a classroom environment that: Promotes respect and responsibility Supports Christian values Encourages student engagement Reinforces positive behavior Maintains high academic expectations Maximizes instructional time Responsibilities include: Establishing classroom routines Enforcing school policies consistently Managing student behavior professionally Maintaining classroom organization Supervising students appropriately Reporting disciplinary concerns promptly Student Support The teacher shall: Identify struggling students early. Provide appropriate interventions. Offer additional academic support when needed. Collaborate with intervention staff. Support students with accommodations outlined in IEPs, 504 Plans, or other educational plans. Encourage student confidence and resilience. Parent Communication Maintain professional communication by: Responding to parent inquiries promptly. Communicating student progress regularly. Documenting significant parent interactions. Participating in parent conferences. Working collaboratively with families to support student success. Addressing concerns professionally and respectfully. Professional Responsibilities The teacher is expected to: Arrive on time and prepared each day. Maintain professional appearance. Demonstrate Christian character. Attend faculty meetings. Participate in professional development. Complete required reports by established deadlines. Maintain confidentiality. Collaborate with colleagues. Support school-wide initiatives. Demonstrate flexibility in assigned duties. Supervise students during assigned duties including arrival, dismissal, lunch, chapel, and special events. Technology Responsibilities Utilize instructional technology effectively, including: Student Information System (RenWeb/FACTS) Google Workspace for Education Interactive instructional technology Learning management platforms Assessment software Email communication Classroom presentation tools Maintain accurate electronic records and grades. Participate in emergency drills.. Qualifications Required Bachelor's Degree in English, Language Arts, Education, or related field. Demonstrated ability to teach middle and/or high school students.
