Job Description

Millikin University's School of Writing, Languages, & Cultures invites applications for a full-time visiting instructor of English to teach in our innovative University Writing program, beginning August 2026. This position is a one-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal.
Responsibilities include:
1. Teach courses (15 hours per semester, or the equivalent), primarily EN 181: University Writing and EN 281: Writing in the Disciplines, as assigned by the School. 2. Maintain regular office hours to assist students. Respond in a timely fashion to student correspondence, including student e-mails. 3. Assess student performance. 4. Maintain a professional attitude with all students, faculty, and staff. 5. Engage in faculty development opportunities and attend program and School meetings.
Qualifications :
This position requires a Master's, MFA, or doctoral degree in English, rhetoric/composition, professional or technical writing, literature, or creative writing, along with a clear record of teaching excellence. Candidates with a doctoral degree in rhetoric/composition, technical or professional writing, or creative writing are preferred, as are candidates with the ability to teach Writing in the Disciplines (EN281), a course that has students explore writing and research in their fields/occupations, and/or developmental writing.
