Position Summary Prairie Seeds Academy is seeking a Long-Term ELA Teacher to provide classroom coverage for an extended employee leave. This is a salaried, long-term teaching assignment that will cover the majority of the school year. Unlike a traditional substitute teaching position, the Long-Term ELA Teacher will assume the ongoing instructional and professional responsibilities of the classroom teacher during the leave period. This includes preparing and delivering instruction, reviewing curriculum and lesson materials, assessing student learning, grading and entering grades, analyzing student data, communicating with families, collaborating with department and support staff, and participating in required school and professional meetings. The Long-Term ELA Teacher is responsible for maintaining continuity of instruction and ensuring students continue to receive consistent, high-quality academic support throughout the teacher's absence. The ideal candidate will be able to establish strong relationships with students, create an engaging and supportive classroom environment, and provide instruction aligned with PSA's ELA curriculum, the 2020 Minnesota ELA Standards, Science of Reading practices, and READ Act requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assume responsibility for the daily instruction and ongoing management of assigned ELA classes for the duration of the long-term assignment. Review, prepare, adapt, and deliver lessons using PSA's established ELA curriculum, instructional materials, pacing, and assessments. Prepare for instruction beyond the daily school schedule as necessary to effectively meet classroom and student needs. Provide differentiated instruction to meet the academic and language-development needs of students, including multilingual learners. Apply instructional practices aligned with the Science of Reading, the READ Act, and the 2020 Minnesota ELA Standards. Collaborate with EL, Special Education, and other support staff to implement appropriate accommodations, modifications, and instructional supports. Establish and maintain a positive, supportive, structured, and engaging classroom environment. Assess student learning, provide timely feedback, grade assignments and assessments, and maintain accurate and current grades in the school's student information system. Monitor student progress and analyze assessment and classroom data to identify student needs and adjust instruction. Participate in Data-Driven Instruction (DDI) meetings with the principal and other academic leaders. Participate in department meetings, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), data meetings, curriculum planning, professional development, and other required staff meetings. Collaborate regularly with department teachers, grade-level teams, academic leaders, and other colleagues to ensure continuity of instruction. Communicate regularly and professionally with parents/guardians regarding student progress, academic concerns, classroom expectations, and other student needs. Participate in parent/guardian conferences and meetings when required. Maintain accurate and complete records related to student attendance, academic progress, grades, assessments, and other required documentation. Follow school policies, procedures, curriculum expectations, and established instructional practices. Participate in schoolwide responsibilities and other professional duties generally expected of classroom teachers during the assignment. Perform other related duties as assigned by school administration. Qualifications Minnesota teaching license in the appropriate subject area and grade level preferred; candidates who meet applicable Minnesota requirements for the long-term assignment may also be considered. Knowledge of the Science of Reading and the 2020 Minnesota ELA Standards. Knowledge of effective instructional practices, differentiation, classroom management, and behavior-management strategies. Ability to independently prepare for and deliver daily instruction using an established curriculum. Ability to assess student work, maintain grades, analyze student data, and use data to inform instruction. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, support staff, students, and families. Ability to establish positive and trusting relationships with students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Demonstrates respect and professionalism when working with students, families, colleagues, and school leadership. Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is preferred. Position Expectations This position is intended to provide consistent, long-term instructional coverage rather than day-to-day substitute services . The employee should expect to take ownership of the assigned classes throughout the leave period and fulfill the instructional, grading, planning, collaboration, communication, and professional responsibilities necessary to support student learning and maintain continuity of the academic program. The position is salaried and requires participation in responsibilities that may occur outside of direct classroom instructional time, including lesson preparation, grading, collaboration, professional meetings, parent/guardian communication, and other duties normally associated with the assigned teaching position.
