Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and passionate English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher for grades 7 through 12 to join our vibrant PreK-12 learning community focused on environmental and outdoor education. This (.8 to 1.0 FTE) position offers an exciting opportunity to inspire students through innovative teaching practices, foster a love for reading and writing, and support diverse learning styles. Riverway seeks an English Language Arts teacher to see up to 75 students daily in 3 core morning classes and an afternoon elective class with class max of 24 students. We are an environmental and community-focused school with and inclusion-focused model on 10-acres with waterfront and a school forest with 160 acres at Camp Wenonah. Students spend time outside each day year-round with associated activities in gardening, canoeing, biking, and other outdoor related activities. Duties Develop and deliver engaging, standards-based curriculum tailored to middle and high school students, incorporating AP style, and current educational technology tools Design and implement lesson plans that integrate literacy education, creative writing, journalism, and social sciences topics to foster critical analysis and communication skills Conduct copy editing, proofreading, and research activities to support student projects and classroom resources Mentor students in their academic growth by providing individualized support, tutoring, and guidance on standardized testing preparation Collaborate with colleagues on instructional design, lesson planning, and curriculum alignment across grade levels Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, behavior management strategies, and academic achievements Practice Restorative Justice and foster relationships with students, staff, and families in a small school setting Skills Expertise in curriculum development with a focus on literacy education, social sciences, journalism, and creative writing Strong knowledge intervention programs and standardized testing procedures Proficiency in educational technology integration including learning management systems and digital resources Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with colleagues, students, and parents Classroom management skills that promote a positive learning environment for teenagers of diverse backgrounds Experience in teaching high school or middle school students with varied learning styles; adaptability is essential to reach higher needs and students with trauma Ability to mentor students in research projects, library services utilization, and instructional design processes Familiarity with educational compliance standards related to private schools and special education needs Demonstrated organizational skills for lesson planning, instructional delivery, and assessment tracking Knowledge of linguistics principles relevant to language arts instruction; experience with Montessori or other specialized pedagogies is a plus Join us in shaping the future by inspiring young minds through engaging lessons that foster curiosity, critical thinking, and academic success.
