An English or Language Arts Teacher teaches English in elementary to secondary schools. Focuses on English, writing, composition, literature, and critical analysis. In elementary school, language arts classes focus on basic reading, writing and linguistic / communication skills. In middle school, the English curriculum evolves and expands to include more complicated reading comprehension, such as fiction, poetry and essays. In teaching high school, the focus relies on developing analytical skills.

English teachers support student development in literacy, preparing students for: Increasingly advanced literacy courses later in their journey like AP Lit, AP Lang, and AP Seminar Success on the State's English II End of Course Exam Success on the ACT Test Enduring ability to read, write, and speak in academic settings Our English teachers work in collaboration with the 9th-grade team as well as their department. Collaboration will foster common methods between the department and within student projects. Implement an exceptional and authentically rigorous English curriculum with an equal emphasis on fiction, non-fiction, and full text studies.
Academic Model:
Implement the School's Instructional Hedgehogs (yes, that's what they are called): our signature set of high-leverage teaching moves designed to simplify complex instruction and maximize student mastery. / Additional Responsibilities Supports other classroom teachers for the purpose of project learning. Serve as an advisor to 15 students in the school's House and Advisory model, implementing SEL curriculum and acting as the primary liaison between the student, school, and their family. /
Qualifications Teaching Experience:
2+ Years of teaching experience preferred Valid North Carolina Professional Educator's License in English (9-12) Previous experience with Literacy instruction Experience using technology to drive instruction
