The candidate must possess the required certification/license and demonstrate an understanding of reading and writing instruction. Job description details and expectations include: Proficient in

NYS 7-12

English Language Arts Standards and curriculum. Possess thorough knowledge of the NYS Regents Examination in English Language Arts and/or NYS Grades 3-8 English Language Arts Assessment and utilize this information to plan and facilitate lessons. Demonstrate a strong background in literacy. Ability to utilize best practices to promote student success with reading and writing. Familiarity with reading strategies for both literary and informational texts. Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning. Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress and modify instructional methods to fit individual student needs. Willing and able to work in a collaborative teaching environment, including co-teaching and interdisciplinary planning. Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth and seek professional learning opportunities. Demonstrate an ability to engage adolescent students and interact in a manner that promotes a positive academic experience for all students. Encourage family involvement and ensure effective communication with students and families. Experience with social and emotional learning preferred.
