Are you passionate about helping students discover the power of literature, develop their voice as writers, and engage deeply with complex ideas? The English 4 and AP English Literature and Composition Teacher is responsible for creating a rigorous, joyful, and inclusive classroom where scholars are challenged to think critically, write confidently, and prepare for success in college and beyond. The teacher will use Springboard to plan and deliver standards-aligned instruction centered on complex literary texts, explicitly teach literary analysis and evidence-based writing, and provide frequent, actionable feedback that helps scholars grow as readers, writers, and thinkers. English Teachers at CIP use student work and assessment data to adjust instruction, provide targeted support and enrichment, and ensure that all scholars, including students with IEPs and multilingual learners, have meaningful access to AP-level content. In addition to strong content knowledge, the ideal candidate builds warm, accountable relationships with scholars and families, establishes consistent classroom routines and high expectations, collaborates closely with colleagues and school leaders, and brings energy, joy, and a deep belief that all scholars can succeed in a challenging college-level course. This leave replacement position runs through December 2026. Employment past December 2026 is contingent upon performance and vacancies within and across the organization. Coney Island Prep High School is a college preparatory, public charter high school located in the Gravesend neighborhood of Brooklyn and is the first charter school located in Community School District 21. Founded in 2013, CIPHS enrolls approximately 350 students in grades 9-12, with 75 students in the senior class. Since its first graduating class in 2017, every CIPHS senior graduates with college acceptances in hand. Scholars dive into a rigorous curriculum rich with AP courses, College and Career Readiness classes, all in a supportive, small-school environment with extracurricular opportunities from sports to enrichment clubs and leadership opportunities. All CIPHS seniors are eligible for tuition assistance and financial support starting at a baseline amount of $3,000 annually through the PRIDE Promise Scholarship.
