Position Overview St. Charles Borromeo School is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and student-centered 6th Grade English Language Arts & Social Studies Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will have a passion for literacy, writing, history, and helping students become thoughtful readers, writers, researchers, and critical thinkers. Sixth grade represents an important transition into middle school. We are looking for an educator who can combine high academic expectations with strong relationships, clear routines, engaging instruction, and developmentally appropriate support as students become more independent learners. Key Responsibilities The 6th Grade ELA & Social Studies Teacher will: Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in English Language Arts and Social Studies. Develop students' skills in reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing, grammar, speaking, listening, research, and critical thinking. Provide students with regular opportunities to engage with high-quality fiction and nonfiction texts. Teach students to write effectively across multiple genres, including narrative, informational, and argumentative writing. Use Social Studies instruction to develop students' understanding of history, geography, culture, government, and civic responsibility. Intentionally integrate literacy skills into Social Studies through primary and secondary sources, research, discussion, and evidence-based writing. Establish a structured, joyful, and academically rigorous classroom environment. Use student assessment data, including i-Ready , classroom assessments, writing samples, and student work, to identify learning needs and adjust instruction. Implement purposeful small-group instruction and differentiated learning opportunities. Provide intervention and enrichment based on individual student needs. Establish clear classroom routines, procedures, and behavioral expectations. Monitor student progress and maintain accurate academic records. Provide students with meaningful and timely feedback. Communicate consistently and professionally with families regarding student progress, successes, and areas of concern. Collaborate with colleagues, instructional leaders, special education providers, Title I providers, and other members of the school community. Participate actively in professional development, middle school team meetings, school-wide meetings, and collaborative planning. Support students' social-emotional development and their transition into the expectations and responsibilities of middle school. Incorporate Catholic values, service, and the mission of St. Charles Borromeo School into the classroom experience. Participate in school events, celebrations, liturgies, field experiences, and other activities that contribute to the life of the school community. Qualifications Required:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Experience working with upper-elementary or middle school students. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong content knowledge in English Language Arts and/or Social Studies. Ability to plan and deliver standards-aligned instruction. Commitment to creating an inclusive, structured, and academically challenging learning environment.

Preferred:

Previous experience teaching Grades 5-8. Experience teaching English Language Arts and/or Social Studies. Experience with i-Ready or other diagnostic and progress-monitoring platforms. Experience implementing small-group and differentiated instruction. Familiarity with New York State Learning Standards. Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs.
