Job Description

English Language Instructor Part-Time Faculty Make English useful beyond the classroom. As a Part-Time English Language Instructor , you'll help adult learners build the English and digital skills they need to navigate everyday life, pursue education, advance their careers, and connect with their communities. You'll create a welcoming, culturally responsive classroom where students' experiences and strengths are part of the learning. You'll deliver practical, real-world English instruction, adapt lessons for learners at different proficiency levels, track student progress, and help students connect their learning to meaningful personal and career goals. Class Instruction:
Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned ESOL instruction appropriate for adult learners at varying English proficiency levels. Provide instruction in speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation within meaningful real-world contexts. Differentiate instruction to address varying educational backgrounds, literacy levels, languages, learning needs, abilities, and career goals. Incorporate authentic materials and practical applications related to employment, education, family, financial literacy, health literacy, civic participation, and navigating community resources. Integrate digital literacy and technology skills into instruction so students develop the skills needed for education, employment, and everyday life. Incorporate workforce preparation skills, including communication, critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, professionalism, and career exploration. Connect English language development to students' education and career goals, including transitions to high school equivalency, postsecondary education or training, apprenticeships, and employment. Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies appropriate for adult English language learners. Create a welcoming, respectful, culturally responsive learning environment that recognizes and builds upon the experiences and strengths adult learners bring to the classroom.
Documentation and Tracking:
Conduct student intake, orientation, goal setting, and instructional placement. Administer or assist with approved standardized assessments in accordance with state and program policies and test administration requirements. Monitor student progress toward measurable educational, employment, and personal goals. Provide timely, constructive feedback to learners concerning their progress. Encourage students to complete required post-testing and other measures of educational progress. Maintain awareness of student attendance and progress and conduct appropriate outreach to support student persistence and retention.
Student Support:
Establish positive, professional relationships with adult learners and promote a classroom culture of persistence, achievement, and belonging. Assist students in identifying short- and long-term educational and career goals. Connect students, as appropriate, with program staff and community resources that can help address barriers to participation. Encourage eligible students to transition to additional adult education services, high school equivalency preparation, Integrated Education and Training (IET), workforce training, postsecondary education, or employment.
Incidental Functions:
Attend required meetings and trainings which may include bi-weekly faculty meetings, in-service training sessions, and standards-based Professional Learning Community (PLC) trainings. Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE. SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must possess good organizational and leadership skills. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and through correct written grammar and usage. Working knowledge of technology used in a learning environment. Ability to problem solve, multi-task, and work independently. Strong desire to help adults pursue career and college opportunities. Demonstrated ability to relate to and be sensitive to individuals from diverse social, economic, and cultural backgrounds. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education, English or related field. Experience with English language learners in an instructional setting such as teaching or tutoring. Preferred Qualifications Certificate or master's degree in teaching English as a Second Language and/or Applied Linguistics Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds. Previous Adult Basic Skills experience.
