ELL Instructor Reports To:

ELL Coordinator Principle Function This is a position for a part-time ELL teacher who will work closely with the ELL Director and other teachers to develop and teach a curriculum designed to help adult students with beginning literacy skills through advanced English language proficiency to learn how to read, write and speak basic English. The end goal is for students to be able to use their English skills to get a self-supporting job or go on to specialized training or further education. Major Responsibilities Prepare personalized curriculum using national ELP guidelines and teach a class every evening as assigned by the ELL Coordinator. The class is a hybrid virtual and in person class. Deliver culturally sensitive basic literacy and phonics instruction. Work with volunteers and direct them in helping students in the class. Mark attendance every day in Excel for the class. Recruit and enroll new students. Communicate student attendance to community partners as needed. Facilitate the testing of students. Communicate with students regularly to retain them in our program. Instruct students in basic computer literacy. Coordinate with other staff to teach financial literacy. Attend monthly staff meetings to support and share ideas with all staff members. Attend and document at least eight hours of professional development in ESL subjects per year in addition to a one-day adult education conference held once per year in the fall. Support program leadership in reporting qualitative and quantitative outcomes. Other duties as assigned by the ELL Coordinator. Job Qualifications TESOL certificate Two years of teaching experience in any setting Basic computer and digital literacy such as Microsoft Teams suite Preferred Qualifications Two or more years of English language teaching experience. BEST Plus 3.0 Test Administrator Certification and CASAS Reading STEPS Paper/eTest Proctor Certification. Willingness to complete training and certify in giving State-approved tests, including self-paced instruction online as well as in-person training. Knowledge of computer programs such as Excel and experience in data entry systems. Be willing to participate and certify in mental health first aid. Experience teaching beginning literacy. Schedule 25-29 hours per week, schedule subject to change prior to hiring M-F class is 3 hours; additional hours for prep and administrative duties Unpaid class breaks occur for two weeks in the winter, one week in the spring and three weeks summer each year. Compensation $19-21/hour DOE PTO accrued at a pro-rated rate according to hours worked; paid agency holidays. No group benefits.
