Position title: Environmental Studies Pre-six Lecturer
Salary range: A reasonable estimate for an appointment to teach a standard five-credit course is $8,872-$12,281 (based on salary points 1-12). Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year.
Percent time: Variable, based on the course load assigned.
Anticipated start: Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit's instructional need and the availability of funding. This recruitment is valid for initial appointments made in fall quarter 2026 through fall quarter 2027. Initial appointments with effective dates outside of this recruitment period will require an alternative open recruitment.
Position duration: Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.

The Environmental Studies Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be appointed to teach courses in the following areas: natural history, climate change biology, chemistry, landscape ecology, tropical ecology, animal ecology, pest management, agroecology and food systems, ornithology, entomology, conservation biology, restoration ecology, plant ecology, plant disease ecology, soil biology, wetland ecology, environmental policy, environmental economics, water processes and policy, environmental writing, political ecology, political economy, geography, energy politics and policy, environmental law, coastal policy, environmental risks and vulnerability, environmental justice, and environmental art. The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the inclusive excellence of the academic community through their teaching and other assigned duties. M.A./M.S.
degree or higher in environmental studies or a related field (e.g., chemistry teacher education) or a bachelor's degree and a Certificate in Science Illustration. Equivalent foreign degrees will be considered.
