The
WLW-ECOS
Professor in Residence program brings distinguished scholars with national or international reputations to Florida Atlantic University for academic year residencies. This prestigious program enables visiting professors to collaborate with FAU faculty on cutting-edge environmental research, mentor faculty and students, and contribute to the growth and visibility of ECOS. This residency can be structured as a stand-alone visit or coordinated with a faculty sabbatical. ECOS is Florida Atlantic University's hub for solution-oriented environmental research, training, and community engagement. ECOS unites world-class researchers across the university, including the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science and Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute. FAU is both a a top 100 ranked public university and Carnegie R1 top-tier research institution located along Florida's southeastern Atlantic coast, providing access to coral reefs, coastal estuaries, the Everglades, terrestrial habitats and urban coastal communities—a living laboratory for environmental research.
Residency Highlights:
  • Generous compensation package including salary, housing, travel, and research support
  • Collaborate with ECOS faculty on solution-oriented environmental research
  • Access to world-class facilities at FAU and Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute
  • Conduct research in South Florida's unique ecosystems—coral reefs, Everglades, coastal systems
  • Mentor faculty and students while building research partnerships
  • Flexible structure: stand-alone residency or coordinated with sabbatical
Eligibility:
  • Tenured professor with national/international reputation
  • Two ECOS-affiliated faculty sponsors (at least one sponsor from Biological Sciences, Geosciences, or Chemistry)
Responsibilities:
  • Public research presentation
  • Organize symposium/workshop on innovative environmental research
  • Collaborate on research, publications, or grant proposals
  • Mentor faculty and students
  • Build partnerships to raise ECOS visibility Application Requirements

  • Residency proposal (2-3 pages)
  • CV/Academic record
  • Two letters of support from ECOS-affiliated faculty sponsors
Residency Period:
