American Indian Studies The Department of American Indian Studies at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach AIS 125: American Indian Film Course Description Explores decolonization of media and narrative forms, with a focus on film, television, and writing within American Indian and Indigenous contexts. Engages with and analyzes how Native American and Indigenous filmmakers reclaim and reshape their narratives through visual sovereignty. Aims to dismantle colonial viewpoints and promote an understanding of Indigenous self-determination and representation in media through a variety of filmic genres and media platforms.

Minimum qualifications:

A master's degree A clear commitment to American Indian epistemology, in terms of theory, methodology , pedagogy as they pertain to the field of American Indian Studies. Demonstrated knowledge of sovereignty, culture, and tribal histories and federal Indian policy and law. Demonstrated experience in working in collaboration with California American Indian tribes, communities, organizations and/or other American Indian nations in the US. Per the California State University's Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience teaching American Indian students at the University level. Evidence in developing curriculum in decolonization, tribal sovereignty, resistance, resurgence and resilience and courses addressing settler colonialism. Evidence of working with American Indian tribes and communities. Evidence of working collaboratively with other departments and programs across disciplines. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campus community as it relates to teaching and, as applicable, service.
