Open-Rank Tenure-Track Position in Sport Media and Culture The School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC) at the University of Iowa seeks to hire a tenure-track (open rank) faculty member specializing in sport media and culture (SMC). Sport Media and Culture at Iowa offers a curriculum that blends humanities-based and professional coursework. Students take courses in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Department of American Studies. The SMC program is housed in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and the faculty member will be in SJMC. Preferred applicants will have a demonstrated record of research productivity and a desire to collaborate with faculty and graduate students within SJMC and across the university. The successful candidate will teach within the undergraduate and graduate curriculum. The candidate will also mentor MA and PhD students and teach required and elective courses in our graduate program. We seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to work with students from a variety of backgrounds and who hold a range of worldviews. The typical expectations of tenure-track faculty are 40% teaching (2 courses per semester), 40% research, and 20% university and professional service. The appointment will begin August 18, 2027. Located in Iowa City (population 70,000), the University of Iowa is the state's flagship educational institution with more than 31,000 students and 1,700 faculty. The University of Iowa's School of Journalism and Mass Communication, with roughly 525 undergraduate majors in Journalism and Mass Communication and Sport Media and Culture and 60 master's and doctoral students, is housed in the Philip D. Education Requirement:

Doctoral degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, Sport Studies, American Studies, or a related discipline

Required Qualifications:

Teaching experience at the university level Evidence of research productivity in sport media/culture commensurate with rank

Desirable Qualifications:

Demonstrated expertise in humanistic approaches to sport media and culture
