FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Position Details The Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture (SSA) seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in urban studies at the entering rank of associate professor, starting Fall 2027. We seek an expert on public housing in urban environments whose research and teaching situates urban studies in global, transregional and/or cross-cultural contexts. The successful candidate will teach in our B.A. in Urban Studies and the Built Environment program, offering the required courses Introduction to Urban Studies, Techniques of Urban Communication, and Social Justice and the Built Environment. They will also advise majors in a required two semester capstone project. The ideal candidate will also be willing and able to teach a required course on the built environment of New York City for first-year students in SSA's professional B.Arch. program. The faculty member will have the opportunity to teach advanced seminars on public housing and other topics related to area of specialization. The SSA is committed to social and sustainable concerns in design and practice, as well as to providing access to the finest education in the art, history, technology of architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, and urban studies to the broadest and most diverse student population. A prospective member of the faculty should be prepared to participate in and contribute to this lively intellectual atmosphere, and join the SSA in its commitment in furthering justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism within the academy and the design professions. The Associate Professor will share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. urban studies, urban geography, architectural history or a related field. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Preferred Qualifications The candidate must have experience in teaching undergraduate lecture courses and/or seminars in urban studies. Scholarship appropriate for an appointment at the rank of associate professor. A deep commitment to city life and the fundamental principles of a public institution of higher education with a highly diverse student body is expected.

COMPENSATION

Salary Range:

$109,519
