Job Description
The Arts and Humanities Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago is now accepting applications for part-time Lecturers who will teach up to four courses in the Humanities Core during the 2026-27 academic year. Part of every first-year student's course schedule, the Humanities Core is the foundation of Chicago's general education curriculum. It is instrumental in facilitating the transition from high school to college by helping students become independent thinkers. In small discussion-based seminars, students learn and practice the art of oral argument and dialogue. To learn more about the sequence and the Humanities Core, see the College's online catalog: http://collegecatalog.uchicago.edu/thecollege/humanities/ Responsibilities include preparing and teaching seminar-style courses, holding regularly scheduled office hours, preparing and grading assignments, and attending staff meetings. The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the University. The position requires a Ph.D. in a relevant Humanities discipline. The position is open to applicants who will have completed all requirements for their Ph.D. no later than August 31, 2026.
