Department McCoy College of Science, Mathematics and Engineering Job Classification(s): Professor Starting Date Spring 2026 Responsibilities The Kimbell School of Geosciences in the McCoy College of Science, Mathematics and Engineering at Midwestern State University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure track /Professor, to begin in the Spring of 2026. As a faculty member in the Kimbell School of Geosciences, you will be expected to teach introductory geosciences courses, petroleum geology, and other appropriate upper-level and graduate courses of their design. Coursework partially supports a minor in Petroleum Engineering. They will oversee undergraduate and master's research, pursue external support, and engage in service to the department, college, university and community. They will fully participate in our dynamic program, supporting our strong ties to the region's petroleum exploration, water resource, and environmental service and regulatory communities. The Kimbell School of Geosciences has strong ties to the region's petroleum exploration, water resource, and environmental service communities. We seek candidates that will complement our current expertise in remote sensing, paleontology, petrology, and geophysics. The McCoy College of Science, Mathematics and Engineering currently has 52 full-time faculty members in 6 academic departments/schools. The College serves more than 700 students in STEM majors and provides graduate programs in Biology, Computer Science, Geosciences, and Industrial Technology. Requirements Required Qualifications Minimum qualifications are a Ph.D. in geosciences, strong interpersonal skills, and evidence of experience or potential for success in teaching. The applicant will demonstrate a record of success through either publications in refereed journals commensurate with experience or that of an established career in related industry or government agency. Candidates should be familiar with subsurface data and its integration in modem computing environments. Preferred Qualifications In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply: Demonstrated success in teaching, mentoring, and broader engagement. Areas of specialization may include, but are not limited to oil/gas exploration, reservoir characterization, basin evolution, structural geology, and petroleum geochemistry. Experience in developing a successful undergraduate and graduate research programs will be given special consideration. Industry or regulatory experience is also preferred. Expertise in regional (particularly on-shore Texas and southern Midcontinent) petroleum systems is additionally desirable.
