Job Description

Graduate Assistant for the Academic Success Center The University of Dubuque is a growing faith-based University seeking a Graduate Assistant for the Academic Success Center for the 2026 - 2027 academic year, with the potential renewal for 2027 - 2028. The Graduate Assistant for the Academic Success Center will serve as a Learning Support Coach, building relationships and guiding students in overcoming obstacles as they work toward college success. Outside of managing a small student caseload, the ASC Graduate Assistant will also contribute toward special projects based on their background, interests, and field of study.
Primary Responsibilities:
Learning Support Coach (50%) Build rapport with students, help identify strengths & challenges, and facilitate goalsetting Guide students in developing study skills and other habits to ensure success Monitor student academic performance and maintain accurate records Help students learn to communicate with faculty, coaches, advisors, and staff to encourage effective problem solving and self-advocacy and to create a support network Connect students with necessary Learning Support Services and help them navigate other campus processes (e.g. Advising, Financial Planning, etc.) Comply with FERPA, HIPPA, campus, and department guidelines Perform other duties as assigned in support of the University's Mission Projects Based on Specialty (50%) Academic Success Center promotion (e.g. plan and lead events, assist with social media & marketing, develop other initiatives to increase student awareness and participation) Data & reporting (e.g. assess ASC utilization to make recommendations, create weekly and annual reports, improve record keeping systems) Student-athlete support and collaboration with the Athletic Department (e.g. support teams in developing and maintaining academic plans, facilitate large group Study Tables) Hiring and development of peer tutors and writing consultants (e.g. improve recruiting & training processes, screen applicants, assist with basic onboarding)
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree is required and the position is conditional based on acceptance into University of Dubuque Masters' program Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, and administration Effective problem-solving skills Ability to maintain and model professionalism and appropriate boundaries with students
Preferred Qualifications:
Teaching or mentoring experience in either a formal or informal education setting Experience working with underrepresented individuals from varying academic, economic, social, and cultural backgrounds All graduate tuition is waived for the student for the term in which they serve as a GA. In return for a waiver of tuition, the assistantship recipient agrees to provide service to the University equivalent to twenty (20) hours per week. For more information, click here.
