Job Description
Expectations for the successful candidate:
- Evangelical Christian confession of faith and experience.
- Bachelor's degree.
- Working understanding of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Clear and concise interpersonal communication, must be comfortable in small and large group settings, and in communicating with students and their parents. Find opportunities to collaborate with other departments. Assist with campus life events as needed. Assist with additional tasks within the overall Student Development department.
- Assist the Intercultural life club presidents with their monthly club events. Assist the Director in planning and executing all-campus intercultural events and programs like Festival Latino, Soulfest and Chinese New Year.
POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Graduate Assistant for Intercultural Life Mount Vernon Nazarene University exists to shape lives through educating the whole person and cultivating Christ-likeness for lifelong learning and service. Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) is an intentionally Christian teaching university for traditional age students, graduate students, and working adults who seek opportunities to learn and grow in an academic community of faith. The University provides the context for a transformational experience through excellent academics, service opportunities, caring relationships, and a nurturing spiritual and social environment. Faculty, staff, and students are challenged to achieve their highest potential, to become increasingly Christ-like and to make a difference in their world through lifelong service. The University seeks a Graduate Assistant to serve in the role of Intercultural Life Student Programming on the main campus. This position is 20 hours per week and is a full tuition benefit extending through the duration of the student's Master's program. Stipends, textbooks, and computers are not provided as part of the assistantship. The goal of the office of Intercultural Life is to provide support of American students of color, international students, and Missionary Kids (AIM), and events that celebrate different cultures to the student body. The Intercultural Life graduate assistant would report to and support the director of Intercultural Life in efforts of retention and enrollment growth for the AIM student community. Responsibilities for this position include:- Assist with the Global Leadership scholar program.
- Assist the Director of Intercultural Life in managing and mentoring the intercultural life student ambassadors.
- Excellent organizational, written and communication skills.
- Excited and creative in planning and executing events.
- Desire to have leadership qualities.
- Acceptance into an MVNU Graduate Program
- Willingness to work with individuals from different gender, national, ethnic, ability, social, and economic backgrounds.
- Comfortable and grounded in one's own cultural identity.
- Must be capable of sitting, walking or standing for long periods of time, frequent use of stairs, ability to lift 30 pounds.
