Job Description
Battle Ground Academy (BGA) currently seeks an Assistant Head of the Early Learning Center to join our team. Located in Franklin, Tennessee, BGA is a co-educational, independent day school serving Pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. The Assistant Head of the Early Learning Center plays a crucial role in developing and maintaining high-quality teaching and learning practices across the early childhood program. This role is grounded in a deep belief in the transformative power of play-based, whole-child early childhood education. The Assistant Head partners closely with the Head and teaching team to provide consistent pedagogical support, strengthen classroom environments, and ensure that children's learning is thoughtfully observed, documented, and communicated.
Primary Responsibilities:
Instructional Support and Coaching Coach teachers through observation, feedback, and reflective conversation to strengthen instructional practice Support teachers in creating classroom environments that foster belonging, spark curiosity, and invite deep engagement Help teachers translate play-based experiences into clear developmental outcomes Support consistency in routines, expectations, and shared language across the program, including our three foundational expectations: be safe, be kind, be helpful Provide in-the-moment support during challenging instructional or behavioral moments Partner with the Head of ELC to design and facilitate professional learning that is practical, relevant, and aligned to our philosophy Support the onboarding and mentoring of new teachers to ensure a strong and consistent foundation Child Development and Student Support Observe classrooms and partner with teachers to respond to student behavior and developmental needs with clarity and care Provide guidance on strategies that support emotional regulation, social development, and positive peer interaction Partner with teachers to implement developmentally appropriate Tier 1 and Tier 2 supports Documentation and Communication of Learning Coach teachers in making learning visible through documentation, meaningful assessment, and strong school-home partnerships Partner with teachers to share children's development with families in ways that are clear, strengths-based, and reflective of our play-based/whole-child approach Partner with the Head of ELC to communicate developmental observations to families with clarity, professionalism, and care Program Development and Alignment Work alongside the Head of ELC to ensure that daily classroom practice reflects the values and vision of the program Contribute to ongoing reflection, planning, and program growth Help tell the story of the Early Learning Center through classrooms, relationships, and child-led co-creationsSimilar jobs in Franklin, TN
