The Virginia Commonwealth University, School of the Arts (VCUarts) seeks teaching assistants to teach in the Summer Pre-College Program for
High School Students:
July 12 - 31, 2026. The Summer Pre-College Program at VCUarts is a three-week program that offers rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors the opportunity to take one non-credit course at VCUarts. Training and orientation equivalent to four hours will be required of the candidate prior to the start of the program. Classes will run for 3 weeks, Monday through Friday, six hours a day.

Responsibilities Include:
Complete required youth training Assist the Instructor by setting-up classroom space and project materials Provide students with technical and conceptual development on projects Participate in the critique process Chaperone students while in buildings and escort students to facilities when needed Ensure quality and effectiveness of the Summer Pre-College Program Enforce Program policies and procedures at all times Other duties as assigned by the Program Director or course
Instructor Preferred Qualification:
Knowledge of VCUarts campus, equipment, and resources Prior TA experience
Minimum Qualifications:
BFA degree, or current BFA/MFA student Experience in the arts High energy, enthusiastic Enjoy working with creative and passionate students Outstanding communication and presentation skills Positive, flexible, hard-working and engaging Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
