Job Description

Professor of Practice of Forensic Science or Clinical Associate/Full Professor of Forensic Science School of Interdisciplinary Forensics New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences Location:
ASU's West Valley Campus Open Date:
September 28, 2026
Position Description:
The School of Interdisciplinary Forensics (SIF) in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (New College) at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for one full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-eligible faculty position in the forensic science program at the rank of either Professor of Practice, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor. Salary is based on qualifications at hire. The anticipated start date is August 2027. Professors of Practice bring substantial professional expertise to the academic enterprise. This position is designed for a distinguished senior practitioner with at least ten (10) years of relevant professional experience. Clinical Professors are faculty members whose work emphasizes the integration of professional expertise, applied scholarship, teaching, and service. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate forensic science courses and contribute service and professional engagement that strengthen SIF's relationships with the forensic science and legal communities. The position does not carry a research expectation, although a research component may be incorporated into the workload for a Professor of Practice or Clinical Professor who wishes to pursue research. This position involves in-person teaching at ASU's West Valley campus in Glendale, Arizona, and may also include some online teaching. The teaching load will depend on whether research responsibilities are incorporated into the position. A Professor of Practice whose workload consists of teaching and service will teach eight courses per academic year (four per semester). If the successful candidate wishes to incorporate research responsibilities into their workload, the teaching load will be six courses per academic year (three per semester). Salary is based on qualifications at the time of hire. The appointment will begin in August 2027 and is expected to continue through May 15, 2028. Subsequent one-year appointments may be offered at the discretion of the university but are not guaranteed. The area of specialization is open. Preference will be given to candidates with substantial senior leadership experience in forensic science practice, particularly those who have held managerial or executive positions in crime laboratories, medicolegal laboratories (e.g., pathology, toxicology), or medical examiner's offices/systems who can build strong relationships with laboratory directors and other leaders across the forensic science community. Candidates whose professional leadership has been based in the legal community may also be considered, particularly attorneys who hold an advanced degree in a relevant scientific or forensic field, have extensive professional experience involving scientific evidence, and can connect SIF with professionals in both the legal and forensic science communities.
