Duties & Responsibilities:

The Associate Program Director assists the Program Director with administering and maintaining an educational environment, aligned with the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) Pathways to Excellence, conducive to educating residents/fellows in each of the ACGME competency areas. Serves in the capacity of the Program Director in their absence. Provides instruction and mentorship to medical students, graduate students, residents, fellows, and faculty across clinical and academic settings. Assesses learner competencies and assists with mediation and remediation as needed. Conducts, supports, and promotes research and scholarly activity within the division. Demonstrates commitment to the education of resident and fellow physicians in all competencies pertinent to the subspecialty and serves as a role model of professionalism. Contributes scholarly activities to help maintain national ACGME accreditation of the program. Perform additional academic, clinical, and scholarly responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Assistant Professor MD degree or equivalent medical degree from an accredited medical school. Completion of an appropriate residency and fellowship training program approved by the ACGME or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). Maintaining board certification in Neurology through the American Board of psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry, or similar. Valid Hawaii Medical license by date of hire. Demonstrated ability in teaching and patient care. Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others. Organizational skills and leadership abilities. Associate Professor Same as Assistant Plus Four years in the rank of Assistant professor, or four (4) years of other healthcare experience, or a total of four years of teaching in the rank of Assistant Professor and other experience, or one year at the rank of Associate Professor at another health care school of recognized standing. Proven ability to teach medical students, residents, or fellows. Evidence of effective research and scholarly activity (i.e., recent publications in peer-reviewed journals or regional/national presentations, quality initiatives, or medical education administration). Recognition for having made a significant scholarly contribution to the clinical specialty. Ability to serve as a role model for students and junior colleagues. Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others. Evidence of excellent patient care in a collaborative environment. Experience in academic and/or clinical program administration. Evidence of excellent team building and interpersonal skills. Experience functioning in a complex system of multiple organizations and stakeholders. Familiarity with Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) and Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements.

Desirable Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience with curriculum development and evaluation. Eligibility for clinical privileges at The Queen's Health Systems. Familiarity with curriculum development and evaluation, provider of educational activities as required by the LCME, ACGME, and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).
