Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) at the University of Hawai'i is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Infectious Diseases physician to join the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Medicine. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a growing academic infectious disease group, help shape and expand clinical programs, and participate in clinical research — all while enjoying an exceptional quality of life in one of the most desirable places to live in the world. The position is based within a nationally recognized clinical and research program with strengths in HIV, emerging infections, and global infectious disease threats. The successful candidate will join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team dedicated to improving infectious disease outcomes statewide, with ongoing programmatic development toward a Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases. No prior research experience is required. Mentorship and training in clinical research methods will be provided for physicians who are eager to learn and grow in an academic environment. Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Care Provide infectious disease expertise through a combination of in-person and virtual care models, as well as outpatient clinic opportunities. Teaching & Mentorship Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and graduate students through didactic sessions, clinical supervision, and one-on-one mentoring of research projects. Serve as a role model for trainees interested in infectious diseases and academic medicine. Research & Scholarship Participate in our center's clinical research program, including NIH-funded and industry-sponsored multi-center clinical trials evaluating new therapies for infectious diseases. Contribute to the development of locally initiated clinical and translational research studies, with guidance from experienced investigators. Attend and contribute to staff and research meetings. Other duties as assigned. Minimal Qualifications MD degree or equivalent medical degree from a medical school of recognized standing. Valid Hawaii medical license by date of hire. Board certification or board eligibility in Infectious Diseases by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Demonstrated ability in teaching and with patient care. Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others. Desirable Qualifications Interest in or familiarity with clinical research (formal experience not required - training will be provided). Demonstrated interest in teaching medical students, residents and pre-doctoral students.
