Western Atlantic University School of Medicine (WAUSM) invites applications for full-time faculty members in the Anatomical Scienceswithin the pre-clerkship phase (year 1 and 2) of the medical curriculum. This position is designed for an educator-scholar that ispassionate about teaching anatomy that is highly focused on clinical correlates and at the level of detail required for future physicians.

This may include teaching topics across gross anatomy, histology, embryology and neuroscience, as necessary. WAUSM does not currentlyinclude dissection in its curriculum; instead, faculty employ integrated, active teaching methods that connect structure with function anddisease. Our students study medicine in a highly integrated,systems-based curriculum that incorporates active learning strategies into large and small group settings. With a powerful focus on active,case-based learning; robust simulation; and early exposure to clinical patients, WAUSM students have an integrated learning experience withindividualized support that prepares them to excel in the clerkship portion of their studies, and beyond. The pre-clerkship foundational sciences program isbuilt around a 5-semester (15 weeks per term) model of instruction with basic science concepts and competencies related to patient centeredcare integrated and woven throughout. The current campus includes multi-functional academic learning spaces, student study, tutoring andleisure space , faculty offices and collaboration areas, simulation and clinical exam rooms and outdoor spaces. WAUSM operateson three terms per year with a new class of students matriculating each term. Therefore, teaching duties and administrative responsibilitiescontinue throughout the year. Duties and Responsibilities:

Teachingand Curriculum Development Actively teach, advise, mentor, and evaluate students in a manner that exemplifies excellence andcare. Prepare teaching materials including presentations, pre-reading assignments, practice questions, quizzes, active learningactivities, or other, as required. Assist in the creation and review of formative and summative assessments to evaluate studentprogress and performance and facilitate summative quiz sessions as required. Revise teaching materials and techniques to staycurrent and innovative, aligning with the continuous improvement of the curriculum and supporting positive student outcomes. Ensurethat all teaching materials, communications, posts, assessment materials and any other materials delivered to students are updated, currentand polished. Support students through the Center for Academic Success and collaborate in their initiatives as required. Academic Service and Collaboration Participate in and support standing committees, task forces, accreditationefforts, academic and operational plans and initiatives as appointed or elected and/or determined by the Assistant Dean andChair. Contribute to the admissions process by serving as a faculty interviewer for prospective WAUSMapplicants. Collaborate with interdisciplinary faculty to ensure curricular coherence and integration. Engage ininstitutional initiatives related to research, education, and community health. Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean andChair or Dean.

Education, Experience and Attributes:

Earned doctoral degree(PhD, MD or MD/PhD, or equivalent degree) from an accredited institution of higher education. Previous experience inmedical education, demonstrated teaching experience and skill in presenting to students and colleagues, and preparing students for Step 1 isdesired. Experience with

environments preferred. Evidence of scholarly work and eagerness to collaborate andcontribute to research and scholarly work. Evidence of committee work and participation in other initiatives. Experiencewith curriculum development and continuous improvement desired. Experience with assessment programs and the ability to provide inputfor successful programmatic changes based upon assessment results and adult student learning. Solid technological skills andexperience with virtual learning platforms (Canvas), computer-assisted delivery of didactic and active learning content, video-conferencingand other academic / computing platforms (eMedley, SharePoint, Microsoft suite and Teams, etc.). Ability and desire to work withothers in a collegial and collaborative atmosphere. Strong communication skills in English. Ability to communicate effectively andrespectfully with faculty, staff, and students. Exhibit flexibility, adaptability and be open to and embrace creative, innovative,"break the mold" ideas of others. Comfortable living an island lifestyle and embracing that experience.
