Academic Job Description Summary:
The core faculty role for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program is responsible for advancing the educational, clinical, and scholarly missions of the program. This role includes providing high-quality patient care in the emergency department while actively teaching, mentoring, and evaluating resident physicians and medical students. Core faculty contribute to curriculum development, program administration, and continuous quality improvement in accordance with ACGME requirements. They are expected to engage in scholarly activities, participate in committees including but not limited to clinical competency committee and program evaluation committee, support resident recruitment and retention efforts, and foster a positive, inclusive learning environment. This position is 0.1 FTE.
Job Description:
Job Duties Outlined:
Provide clinical supervision of resident physicians and medical students or significant involvement with each resident physician when supervising. Attend GMEC committees, conferences, etc. as requested by the Internal Medicine Chair or Emergency Medicine Program Director. Participate in ad hoc GME activities. Complete monthly resident evaluations within one week of the end of their rotation. Attend educational sessions•M&M conferences, Grand Rounds, Journal Clubs, visiting professors, etc. Provide a minimum of two didactics per year. Participate in Clinical Competence Committee and Program Evaluation Committee processes. Participate in departmental simulations and research activities. Work Environment:
Faculty member must be able to obtain hospital privileges at Wesley Medical Center.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
MD or DO degree or foreign degree equivalent This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.
Certifications/Licenses:
Board certified in emergency medicine or pediatric emergency medicine. Hold or be eligible for Kansas medical license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Work Experience:
Experience in teaching and supervising medical students and resident physicians in the area of emergency medicine
