A Director of Student Affairs leads the student affairs office at a college or university. The office plans and arranges social, cultural, and recreational events and activities of various student groups, according to university policies and regulations; meets and coordinates with student and faculty groups to plan activities; evaluates programs and suggests modifications.

Job Summary:
The Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life provides direct advising to Greek Council(s) and the respective chapters within the council(s). Meets regularly with council officers, chapter presidents, and other chapter officers as appropriate, as a strategy to help develop student leaders in a way that fulfills the vision and mission of the department. Advises council officers in the planning of major events. Oversees the development and implementation of Greek-specific health and wellbeing initiatives. Serves as a liaison between the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and health and wellbeing-related offices on campus.
Additional Department Summary:
The Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life is responsible for the advisement and support of fraternities and sororities and the various Greek governing councils, developing and coordinating educational programs centered around established learning outcomes for fraternity and sorority members, and assessing the effectiveness of those programs, and supporting the Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life in developing a growing, healthy Greek community that is nationally recognized for its quality chapter experience and contributions to campus life. The fraternity and sorority community at The University of Alabama consists of over 70 social fraternities and sororities with more than 13,000 student members, including 46 chapter housing facilities with approximately 1,900 residents. Specifically, the Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life serves as the primary advisor for the Interfraternity Council (IFC). In addition to meeting regularly with council officers, chapter presidents, and other chapter officers, the Assistant Director is responsible for the planning of major Council related events (i.e. Recruitment, Convocation, New Member Education, etc.) and community-wide new member education strategies. The Assistant Director is responsible for completing required training and promoting a safe, hospitable, and respectful workplace. The Assistant Director also has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of fraternity and sorority life professional experience; OR master's degree and two (2) years of fraternity and sorority life professional experience.
Skills and Knowledge:
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities. Ability to build genuine relationships with student leaders, adapt to and support organizational culture, and leverage influence to guide student leader development. Knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet, and database programs, to include Campus Director and Chapter Builder recruitment software programs. Familiarity with Qualtrics Survey Software. Must be able to conduct presentations and training workshops, be an effective communicator, and have organizational strength. Demonstrated commitment to supporting all students.
Preferred Qualifications:
Undergraduate membership in an Inter/National Greek-letter organization strongly preferred. Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Counseling, Communication or a related field and three (3) or more years of professional leadership experience in a higher education setting. Related experience to include student programming, advising Greek student groups and organizations, student union, and other student-oriented activities.
