Job Description:
Under the leadership of the department supervisor, the Schegistrar is responsible for performing duties related to scheduling and pre-registration for upcoming services, assuring a smooth process for the patient. The Schegistrar is responsible for obtaining orders from electronic faxes or physician offices for scheduled tests or procedures and for ensuring exams are scheduled accordingly. The Schegistrar provides clear and accurate instructions/information to patients regarding their upcoming procedures. (S) He is responsible for verifying demographic and insurance information and ensuring the required authorizations are in place, if required. (S) He is responsible for entering complete and accurate data using the appropriate computer systems. S (he) interviews and gathers information from the patient, doctor's office, insurance company, and government agencies. (S) He is a benefit specialist and is able to clearly explain to patients/guarantors their financial responsibility and is able to make arrangements with patients/guarantors to pay their estimated amount due. (S) He is able to identify underinsured/uninsured patients and provide them with information regarding available programs for financial assistance. When necessary, (s) he may be required to cover registration duties as described in the specific job competencies section. (S) He maintains knowledge of the hospital's scheduling, admitting, transfer, and discharge functions. This position serves patients, physician's offices, and other customers, and requires excellent communication and customer service skills.
Experience:
Required:
Clerical experience (typing, filing, answering phones, office equipment). Ability to maintain a positive professional demeanor in a demanding environment. Basic computer skills. Ability to understand and explain insurance reimbursement. Knowledge and experience with medical terminology. Two years experience in a healthcare insurance environment with demonstrated ability to interpret insurance benefits, including discounts, and to calculate estimated patients' portions due.
Preferred:
Knowledge of initiating or obtaining an authorization. Should have at least 2 years of medical terminology experience and have basic knowledge of outpatient radiology procedures to schedule exams appropriately.
Education:
High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent work experience in related field. Equal Opportunity Employer #
LI-DNI Assigned Work Hours:
Per diem, varied day shifts. No set guaranteed hours in a two week pay period. This is not a full or part time position.
Position Type:
Per Diem Pay Range (based on years of applicable experience): $37.62 to $50.33 The hours employees work determine when a shift differential is paid.
Hourly Evening Shift Differential:
$2.11
Hourly Night Shift Differential:
$3.17
