Job Description

Pittsburg State University is accepting applications for a Assistant Director of Residence Life in the University Housing department. The Assistant Director of Residence Life shall be responsible for providing administrative leadership to assure that the residential programming component of the department contributes to a productive living-learning environment for students. This position serves as a member of the supervisory management team charged with oversight of the residential life of University Housing services. In addition to specific functional areas the Assistant Director has overall supervisory responsibility in the absence of the Director of Residence Life. Duties and Responsibilities 30% Supervision of Personnel Provide guidance through attendance at general meetings, one-on-one officer meetings, and trainings/retreats Ensure programs are planned, executed, and assessed in accordance with best practices, standards, and university guidelines Assist with structured and informal membership recruitment, membership intake, and retention Attend and support events, including evenings and weekends 25% Administrative Oversee budget allocations for all hall programming and staff development. Have knowledge of daily operations of main office including the housing office management system software. Provide consultation to Area Coordinators as required relative to emergency or crisis situations as needed. Assist Area Coordinators in making sure buildings are maintained, track furniture needs, make sure work orders or other work is followed up on regarding maintenance. Coordinate student staff stipends and communicate with appropriate staff to ensure payment. Maintain programming records and ensure efforts meet expectations. 20% Representation Attend and participate in on-campus programs and events as a representative of University Housing (i.e. admissions events, CARES, student activities, etc.) Work cooperatively with other campus units such as University Police, University Counseling Services, Student Health Center, Student Success, and Admission to ensure the delivery of essential services and in making appropriate referrals. Participate in selective campus working groups and committees to be determined. 15% Judicial Officer Provide direction to staff and students in communicating, interpreting, and administering residence hall and University policies and procedures as needed. Serve as the appellate judicial officer for cases heard by Area Coordinators. Follow up on concerns regarding individual residents as conveyed by University Housing Leadership. Hold judicial meetings with students as needed and adjudicate appropriate educational sanctions. 10% Other Assist with projects or provide assistance for the University Housing department and functions. Provide leadership for camps and conference services. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Residence Life.
