Job Description

The Student Engagement Coordinator at LSU Shreveport plays a key role in enhancing the student experience through student involvement, leadership development, and Fraternity and Sorority Life advancement. This position focuses on developing meaningful engagement opportunities, advising student organizations, and working collaboratively with the Director of Student Life to strengthen and grow the fraternity and sorority community. With administrative operations supported by departmental administrative staff, this role emphasizes student development, program implementation, chapter coaching, and strategic growth of student involvement initiatives. The coordinator supervises Student Life student staff, supports campus programming, and serves as a key partner in advancing a vibrant and connected campus community.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree. LSUS values skills, experience and expertise. Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities are encouraged to apply - a degree is not required if the candidate meets the required years of experience specified in the job description. At least one year of relevant experience in student activities, student engagement, Fraternity and Sorority Life, or program administration. Experience advising student organizations or working with student leaders preferred Strong organizational and project management skills. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Fraternity and Sorority Life advising.
  • Experience with chapter development or expansion.
  • Experience with student leadership development.
  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field preferred.

Position Duties:
Student Engagement and Student Staff Supervision (25%)
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise Student Life student workers.
  • Create work schedules, conduct evaluations, and provide leadership mentorship.
  • Foster a student-centered environment that promotes belonging, leadership development, and involvement.
  • Assist in developing leadership opportunities for student employees and organization leaders. Fraternity and Sorority Life Development and Growth (35%)
  • Serve as the primary advisor to recognized Greek-letter organizations.
  • Work in partnership with the Director of Student Life to rebuild, strengthen, and grow the Fraternity and Sorority Life community.
  • Develop strategies to improve chapter health, member engagement, recruitment, and retention.
  • Support efforts to expand Fraternity and Sorority Life through the addition of new chapters aligned with institutional priorities.
  • Provide coaching and leadership development to chapter officers.
  • Facilitate leadership education, recruitment training, and risk management education.
  • Coordinate Greek Council meetings and leadership retreats.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies and national organization expectations.
  • Build relationships with national headquarters and regional representatives as appropriate. Campus Engagement and Collaborative Programming (25%)
  • Assist with planning and executing campus-wide programs that increase student engagement and sense of belonging.
  • Collaborate with Residence Life, Recreational Sports, Admissions, Student Success, and Community Engagement to create intentional co-curricular experiences.
  • Coordinate programming calendars across Student Affairs units to maximize student participation.
  • Support prospective student engagement through involvement showcases and admissions events.
  • Assist in developing service opportunities connecting student organizations and Fraternity and Sorority Life with the community. Strategic Initiatives and Departmental Support (15%)
  • Support departmental engagement initiatives and strategic priorities established by the Director of Student Life and the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Involvement and Staff Development.
  • Assist with assessment efforts related to student involvement and engagement outcomes.
  • Contribute to marketing efforts highlighting student involvement opportunities.
  • Participate in divisional committees and student engagement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of Student Life goals. Administrative Operations Collaboration
  • Collaborate with Student Life staff on purchasing requests, supply needs, and budget tracking.
  • Provide programmatic information needed for processing transactions and event logistics.
  • Focus primarily on program oversight while administrative staff manage transactional processes.
