Job Description
The Building-Level Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Team is an interdisciplinary, collaborative school-based team responsible for strengthening the systems, structures, and practices that support the success of all students. The team works to ensure that academic, behavioral, attendance, and social-emotional supports are coordinated, data-informed, equitable, and implemented effectively across Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3. Unlike the Student Intervention Team (SIT), which focuses on problem-solving and intervention planning for individual students, the Building-Level MTSS Team focuses on schoolwide systems and continuous improvement. The team will review school-level data, identify strengths and barriers, support universal data-review processes, examine the effectiveness of tiered supports, and help ensure that staff have clear pathways for responding when students need additional support. The team will use a strengths-based, data-informed approach to identify priorities and engage in ongoing cycles of improvement. We are recruiting a diverse group of educators and student support staff to participate on each school's Building-Level MTSS Team. Membership should represent multiple grade levels, disciplines, and perspectives within the school community. Teams should include school administration and representation from general education, special education, and student support services. Whenever possible, membership should also include academic interventionists or specialists and English Learner educators. Other staff with expertise or interest in data analysis, intervention systems, school improvement, or MTSS implementation are encouraged to participate. Team members will serve as MTSS leaders and liaisons within their school, helping communicate priorities, gather feedback from colleagues, support implementation, and strengthen connections between school-level practices and districtwide MTSS efforts. At least one member of each Building-Level MTSS Team will also participate in the monthly District MTSS Team meetings to support communication and alignment between the school and district. Responsibilities of Building-Level MTSS Team Members Commit to attending and actively participating in Building-Level MTSS Team meetings. Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the district's MTSS framework within the school. Review school-level academic, behavioral, attendance, and social-emotional data to identify strengths, patterns, needs, and priorities. Support and/or facilitate universal data meetings and help ensure that screening and other student data are used effectively to inform schoolwide decision-making. Examine the effectiveness of Tier 1 practices and identify opportunities to strengthen universal academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports. Review and strengthen systems for Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions, including access to interventions, progress monitoring, and processes for determining students' responses to support. Review and refine referral pathways so staff understand how students access additional supports when needed. Identify school-specific barriers that may affect student learning, engagement, attendance, behavior, or access to appropriate supports. Use data and staff feedback to identify opportunities to improve the consistency, effectiveness, and equity of MTSS practices. Support communication about MTSS structures, expectations, resources, and practices with colleagues throughout the school. Serve as a liaison between the Building-Level MTSS Team and grade-level, department, common planning, SIT/PSS, and other relevant school teams. Participate in district-provided MTSS professional learning and support implementation of common district protocols, tools, and procedures. Provide feedback to school and district leadership regarding implementation challenges, resource needs, professional learning needs, and opportunities for improvement. Share effective practices with colleagues and model the skills and habits of collaborative, strengths-based, data-informed problem-solving. Support documentation and monitoring of the school's MTSS implementation and improvement efforts. At least one member will participate in the monthly District MTSS Team and serve as a liaison between the school and district teams. Ideal Team Members The Building-Level MTSS Team is ideal for staff who are interested in improving school systems, strengthening student supports, using data to guide decisions, collaborating across disciplines, and creating more equitable and responsive learning environments for all students. Members do not need to be MTSS experts; they should bring a willingness to learn, collaborate, examine current practices, and help lead continuous improvement within their school.
