Job Description

JOB The Dean of Occupational Programs is responsible for promoting academic, administrative, and fiscal leadership in accordance with Kirtland Community College's Strategic Plan and for exercising holistic judgment when executing the duties of this position. The Dean supervises full-time faculty and oversees part-time faculty in assigned Occupational Programs as well as Workforce Development staff. As such, the Dean is responsible for recruitment, supervision, and evaluation within those departments. Additionally, the Dean is responsible for program quality by leading curriculum development, program assessment and evaluation, budget development and management, and all aspects of the Carl. D. Perkins grant activities including supervision of Perkins funded position(s).
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to assess and improve learning at the program level, produce reports as needed to demonstrate progress made toward achievement of learning and designing, collecting, and evaluating data related to learning.
Support faculty and staff through open communication and professional development.

Ensure the academic integrity of the Occupational programs by upholding professional and accreditation standards.

Collaborate with faculty on program review and curriculum development, ensuring that standards are maintained for course objectives, course content, examinations, and grading.

Ensure faculty develop assessment methods that will demonstrate student learning both at the course and program levelsWork with faculty to resolve student issues and concerns.

Collaborate with faculty to maintain accreditation of their programs and to maintain standards required by accrediting agencies, including the Higher Learning Commission and program specific accrediting and governing agencies. Select, supervise, evaluate, and develop faculty and staff.

Build and maintain partnerships among faculty, staff, administration, and community members. Participate in campus and college-wide planning with administration, faculty, and staff. Develop external partnerships that enhance occupational programs and college interests including but not limited to employers, K-12 organizations, 4-year colleges and universities, labor organizations, and workforce development and community agencies.

Provides strategic oversight and operational management of workforce development programs, ensuring alignment with college and community objectives. Formulate strategic objectives for each department.

Facilitate faculty discussions to develop strategic objectives in keeping with the college's strategic plan. Encourage innovation in the development of departmental objectives and projects. Facilitate the promotion and marketing of programs and courses. Participate in the counseling and disciplinary process as outlined in the student handbook, Kirtland's academic appeal policies and procedures, and program specific student requirements. Prepare and administer the department budgets while maintaining fiscal integrity. Participate in seeking, developing, and managing external grants that promote strategic learning objectives. Act as lead for Carl D. Perkins Grant ProgramParticipate actively in the work of the college and maintain a visible presence within the college and community. Conduct oneself as a spokesperson for the College, as a member of the academic leadership team, and as the leader of and advocate for the Occupational programs.

Complete or oversee the administrative tasks associated with this position including schedule development, payroll deadlines, textbook adoptions, and acquisition and implementation of instructional equipment, supplies, and new technologies. Conduct meetings with faculty and staff on a regular basis, ensuring that standards for the programs are maintained. Serve as a member of committees as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Works under the supervision of the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
ATTENDANCE
  • Individuals in this position are expected to be generally present and/or available for college business or instructional purposes when and as required by contract, policy, or reasonable direction of the college administration.
This individual will work both at the Grayling and Gaylord locations.
