Position Summary:
The associate dean reports to the college dean and works with department chairs, program directors, and other members of the college leadership team. As a senior officer at Central Michigan University, the associate dean deals directly with individual members of the college, including faculty, staff, and students as the occasion warrants. The associate dean provides support to the dean and may assume leadership responsibilities in several areas, including but not limited to the following: curriculum, budgeting, planning, program development; accreditation and assurance of learning; space allocation and remodeling; faculty development; recruiting of new faculty and staff and recruitment of students; college diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, the acquisition of development monies; and facilitating research and grant writing. The associate dean may be assigned other duties, reasonably related to the operation of the college, at the discretion of the dean.
Required Qualifications:
Terminal degree with academic credentials sufficient to be tenured at the level of associate or full professor in a department within the college. Demonstrated history of high-quality teaching, scholarship/creative activity, and service. Ability and willingness to represent the interests of the college to all constituencies. Demonstrated commitment to collaboration with members of the college and university community. Experience in curriculum development, program evaluation/assessment, accreditation, and affiliation agreements. Well-developed oral and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills. Demonstrated history of, and commitment to, working successfully as part of a team. Demonstrated leadership skills and commitment to shared governance. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion, along with a commitment to a global perspective. Successful prior administrative and/or leadership experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with budgeting, planning, and fundraising, Understanding of and experience with mediation and conflict resolution. Implementation and application of information technology in an academic environment. Knowledge of collective bargaining, particularly in higher education.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Provides leadership and direction in support of overall academic planning and course scheduling, program development, enrollment management, curricular review, and student services, with a focus on undergraduate programs. Supervises and coordinates all assessment and assurance of learning activities, particularly as required by accrediting bodies (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and Higher Learning Commission). Acts as liaison from the deans office to Business Student Services and the Office of Student Engagement and Professional Development. Works with faculty to promote teaching excellence, scholarship, and engaged service. Leads college-level diversity, equity, and inclusion activities and participate in efforts that advance the recruitment and retention of a diverse faculty and student body. Leads collaboration efforts with the universitys Innovation and Online initiative, with a particular focus on non-credit offerings and credentialing.
