Hiring Department Student Involvement Student Involvement supports student organizations, campus activities, and university traditions. The department coordinates engagement initiatives, leadership programs, and large scale events in collaboration with campus stakeholders. Positions involve organization support, event coordination, and leadership program administration. Job Description The Director II of Student Involvement and Belonging provides strategic leadership and oversight for programs and initiatives that create an engaging student experience, foster belonging, and strengthen students' connection to Missouri S&T and the Miner community. The position oversees student organizations, fraternity and sorority life, campus programming and traditions, belonging initiatives, and new student engagement and transition, including Opening Week. Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Life, the Director leads departmental strategy, operations, staff, assessment, and resource management while collaborating across the university to create a coordinated and engaging student experience. The Director plays a key role in advancing institutional priorities related to student success, engagement, belonging, and retention.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership Develop and implement a comprehensive vision and strategic plan for Student Involvement and Belonging aligned with institutional priorities and student success
- Foster an engaging student experience that builds belonging and strengthens students' connection to Missouri S&T and the Miner community
- Build collaborative partnerships across the university to advance student success, engagement, and belonging
- Represent Student Involvement and Belonging on university committees, strategic initiatives, and in relationships with families, alumni, community partners, and other stakeholders
Lead departmental assessment and use data, emerging trends, and best practices to continuously improve programs and services Department Administration Provide executive leadership for all functions of Student Involvement and Belonging, including supervision, development, and evaluation of departmental staff
Establish departmental goals, priorities, policies, procedures, and service standards
Oversee budgets, financial planning, contracts, purchasing, and resource allocation
Ensure compliance with university policies, applicable laws and regulations, and risk management standards Student Belonging Provide strategic leadership for campus initiatives that strengthen students' sense of belonging, connection, and engagement, including the 'You Belong at S&T' campaign
Provide leadership and support for student affinity groups and other communities that foster connection, support, and belonging
Partner with students and campus departments to identify barriers to belonging and integrate opportunities for connection into programs, traditions, communications, and the broader student experience Student Organizations and Leadership Development Provide strategic oversight for more than 200 recognized student organizations, including registration, governance, training, advisor development, and operational support
Promote responsible organizational leadership through leadership development, education, policy implementation, and proactive risk reduction
Support shared governance and maintain productive relationships with student government organizations
Oversee hazing prevention education and training for student organizations Fraternity and Sorority Life Provide executive oversight for Fraternity and Sorority Life, supporting values-based organizations focused on scholarship, leadership, service, belonging, and accountability
Ensure effective risk management, policy implementation, community standards, and hazing prevention education and programming
Ensure Fraternity and Sorority Life is integrated into the broader university community by connecting chapters and members with campus programs, training, resources, events, and student engagement opportunities
Collaborate with campus partners and national organizations to promote student success, organizational excellence, and alignment with university expectations
In collaboration with Residential Life, maintain and enforce the University Approved Housing Policy Student Engagement and Transition Provide strategic leadership for programs and initiatives that support new students' transition, engagement, belonging, and connection to Missouri S&T
Provide executive oversight for Opening Week and other new student transition programs, including planning, coordination, implementation, communication, and assessment
Oversee student leaders and peer programs that support new student transition and engagement
Collaborate with campus partners to create a coordinated transition experience aligned with institutional student success and retention priorities Campus Programming and Traditions Provide strategic leadership for campus-wide programming, major traditions, and signature events that foster school spirit, campus pride, belonging, and connection
Oversee major events and traditions, including Homecoming, Family and Friends Weekend, St.
Pat's celebrations, MinerRama, Spring O'Rama, concerts, and other university programs
Provide leadership for Family and Friends programming that strengthens connections among students, their support networks, and the university
Ensure programs are welcoming, educational, engaging, and aligned with institutional values
Ensure appropriate risk management, safety planning, and emergency preparedness for department programs, student organization events, and activities in collaboration with university partners
Minimum Qualifications A master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 7 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary Anticipated Hiring Range The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $81,744-$93,000 annually. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements. Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck. The University of Missouri provides generous leave, health plans, and retirement contributions that add to your bottom line.
