About the Bard Early Colleges Bard High School Early College Brooklyn, a partnership between Bard College and the New York City Department of Education, invites applications for a dynamic individual who will join our administrative team as the Dean of Studies for the 2026-2027 academic year. The Bard Early Colleges (BEC) are founded on the belief that, for many young people, college can and should start at an earlier age. Acting on this belief, Bard Early College enables students to begin serious college study in place of the traditional 11th and 12th grades, at no cost to students or families. The Bard Early Colleges offer a unique home for young people's intellectual ambition: as both tuition-free, branch campuses of Bard College and public high schools, they award a high school diploma and a Bard College Associate in Arts degree (and 60 transferable credits) by the end of the 12th grade. Students are taught by Bard College faculty in undergraduate seminar classes, all deeply rooted in the liberal arts and sciences, in Bard College's commitment to excellence in teaching, and in Bard's mission as a private college in the public interest. Now entering its third decade, the Bard Early College network enrolls over 3,300 young people in campuses in Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Hudson, New York; Newark, New Jersey; New Orleans, Louisiana; Cleveland, Ohio; Baltimore, Maryland; and Washington, D.C. Position Objective and Duties This position serves as one of the early college's academic and administrative leadership team, under the general direction of the Principal of BHSEC Brooklyn The Dean of Studies is responsible for: 1) ensuring that the school meets Bard College's high standards of undergraduate academic rigor and student achievement; 2) facilitating smooth and effective collaboration with the school system partner, NYC Public Schools, and Bard College regarding school management; 3) collaborating on hiring, supporting, and supervising the faculty teaching high school and college courses across the curriculum; 4) fostering a campus culture of intellectual engagement, individual responsibility, and creativity; 5) assisting with each semester's programming, registering, and scheduling faculty and students across both the high school and early college programs; 6) the Dean of Studies will align academic activities with the relevant outcomes and goals outlined for students and faculty, and will facilitate and assess the school's progress in the areas of teaching and learning. Duties Work with the Principal, Assistant Principal, and faculty to refine the curriculum each semester in response to student needs, district expectations, and Bard College standards and curricular developments; Observe classes regularly to evaluate instruction and give feedback for improvement, identifying elements of curriculum and instruction that can be strengthened, and support faculty members with proven instructional methods (i.e. Writing and Thinking approaches); Facilitate inter-faculty observation and collaboration; Serve as master scheduler and grade reporter; Oversee the school's academic integrity policy; Assist the Principal and the Assistant Principal in supporting upholding the school's Code of Conduct and supporting overall school climate; working with various faculty committees, representing BHSEC Brooklyn at early college forums, participating in the faculty hiring process; Assist in supervising school functions, trips, and programs Act as a visible, engaged, and active member of the senior leadership team and in the campus community; Other duties as assigned.

The salary range is based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement payscale for this position: https://www.uft.org/your-rights/salary/doe-and-city-salary-schedules/school-counselor-salary-schedule The Dean of Studies? professional and academic experience should ideally span both secondary and postsecondary teaching and administration, and, where relevant, scholarship. The successful candidate for the position will possess the following characteristics and qualifications: Doctoral degree and administrative certification are preferred; At least five years teaching experience, preferably with both college and high school students; At least one year of relevant leadership experience; Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; Strong written and oral communication skills; Experience with and commitment to working with adolescents; Experience programming and scheduling faculty and student programs; Commitment to equity practice and restorative justice The ideal candidate will be a skilled educator with a demonstrated interest in engaging and challenging younger students with diverse racial backgrounds, economic backgrounds, and a variety of approaches to learning and/or needs for learning supports The ideal candidate will demonstrate a continued interest in the ongoing work in their field The ideal candidate will understand cultural difference and help to uplift ideas from underrepresented groups to improve the equity balance in education The ideal candidate will have a commitment to advancing equity through rigorous curricula made accessible to students with varied academic backgrounds Please apply directly with Bard College / Bard Early Colleges.
