The Director of Student Connections and Outreach reports to the Vice-President for Student Life and Dean of Students. The person in this role provides key leadership, collaboration, and support for initiatives designed to achieve excellence in the engagement and success of all Marietta College students, regardless of their background and experiences. Key metrics in measuring job performance will be related to the retention and graduation rates of students from traditionally underserved populations. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt (salaried) position. A live-on option is also possible for this role, with required participation in the professional on-call staff duty rotation.
Primary job responsibilities:
serve on a committee tasked with guiding campus-wide strategic planning efforts to address student engagement and success as reflected through retention and graduation rates, with the goal of ensuring parity between students from traditionally underserved populations and the student body as a whole work collaboratively with key stakeholders to develop and deliver support programming for students from traditionally underserved populations, especially first-generation, low-income, and/or racial/ethnic minority students; this includes other offices within Student Life as well as colleagues in Academic Affairs and Athletics develop and deliver onboarding training for new Charles Sumner Harrison Fellows, as well as leadership development training for returning Fellows, and manage documentation and approval of service hours completed by Charles Sumner Harrison Fellows as required by their scholarship advise and/or provide consultation, as well as logistical and budget support, to key student organizations whose mission is to serve students from traditionally underserved populations work directly with the VP/Dean of Students to organize and deliver an annual Fall Break trip to Montgomery and Selma, AL to explore the legacy of Black slavery contribute to the development and delivery of learning experiences, workshops, and programs designed to foster and support a sense of purpose and belonging for students and groups from all backgrounds and experiences support key stakeholders in the recruitment and training of student leaders to participate in campus initiatives focused on the engagement and success of students from traditionally underserved populations support the Office of Admissions in their work to recruit students from traditionally underserved populations collaborate with the Office of Communication and Brand Management to develop and disseminate messaging and materials that highlight all of these initiatives, with the goal of supporting the College's outreach to prospective and current students and their families Additional job duties: recruit, train, and supervise student employees and volunteers manage allocated budgets, as well as all necessary reporting of expenditures to the Business Office manage allocated student work study budget and approval of timecards submitted by student employees to the Office of Student Employment manage and maintain office supplies inventory using budget resources allocated for that purpose if the live-on option is chosen, participate in the professional staff on-call duty rotation This position will also fulfill other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Minimum requirements: Master's degree in an appropriate field of study (education, higher education administration, counseling, or other relevant academic discipline) is strongly preferred; bachelor's degree plus appropriate relevant full-time job experience will be considered at least three (3) years of full-time employment in a higher education setting is strongly preferred a demonstrated record of success in leading programming and other initiatives focused on the engagement and success of students from traditionally underserved groups is required Additional requirements: proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively with students and colleagues representing a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and abilities excellent written and oral communication skills excellent organizational skills and attention to detail ability to work independently availability to work evening and weekend hours as required by programming schedules valid US driver's license experience working with students from traditionally underserved populations in at least one institution of higher education experience providing these students with training and support in their transition to higher education demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues to advocate for these students' needs experience managing undergraduate and/or graduate student employees and volunteers Other desired qualifications: Previous work with international students Experience in Title IX investigations and/or administration Background in working on a behavioral intervention team Prior experience delivering for-credit coursework in leadership development
