Job Description
The Director of Student Relations provides leadership for student support, behavioral intervention, and retention initiatives at Eastern Oregon University. This position plays a key role in advancing student success by coordinating institutional responses to student concerns, crises, grievance matters, and behavioral interventions while developing proactive strategies that support student persistence and well-being. The Director leads retention-focused outreach systems and collaborates with campus partners to identify and address barriers to student success. The position oversees the Behavioral Assessment Team (BAT), manages student concern reports and grievance processes, and supports campus safety and compliance initiatives. This role supervises the Assistant Director of Student Relations/Title IX Coordinator and the Health & Wellness Navigator and works closely with departments across campus—including Advising, Admissions, Residence Life, Academic Affairs, and Financial Aid—to ensure coordinated student support services that promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive campus environment. Responsibilities Provide leadership for institutional retention strategies designed to identify and address barriers to student persistence. Develop and manage outreach campaigns, student tracking systems, and engagement strategies using tools such as Slate and EdSights. Analyze student engagement data and coordinate proactive outreach to students experiencing academic, personal, or engagement challenges. Lead the university's Behavioral Assessment Team (BAT) and coordinate responses to student concern reports. Provide oversight for threat assessment processes and collaborate with campus and community partners to address student behavioral or safety concerns. Support students experiencing crises by connecting them with appropriate campus and community resources. Oversee the university's student grievance processes, bias response protocols, and student conduct case management. Ensure students are afforded appropriate due process in conduct matters and maintain conduct records and case documentation. Facilitate resolution processes that support both student accountability and student success. Lead development and review of policies related to student concerns, grievance procedures, bias response, and medical withdrawals. Collaborate with campus leadership to ensure policies align with institutional priorities and applicable state and federal regulations. Support campus partners in the delivery and promotion of federally required training programs, including Title IX awareness, Drug Free Campus education, and Campus Security Authority training. Assist with communication and coordination related to campus safety reporting and compliance initiatives. Chair the Behavioral Assessment Team and serve on institutional committees related to student well-being and conduct processes. Participate as an ex-officio member of the University Grievance Committee and contribute to broader institutional efforts that support student success and safety. Support Title IX education, compliance, and student support initiatives in partnership with the Title IX Coordinator. Assist with campus education and prevention programs and help ensure appropriate accommodations and support for students as required by federal regulations. Provide leadership and supervision for the Assistant Director of Student Relations/Title IX Coordinator, the Health & Wellness Navigator, and student employees. Responsibilities include recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and professional development of staff. Oversee assigned Student Affairs budgets related to programs and initiatives within the department. Lead special projects and research initiatives as assigned by the Vice President for Student Affairs. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, Business Administration, or a related field. Three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education or a related field including: Student conduct or student relations administration Behavioral intervention or threat assessment processes Student support or case management Program development related to student success or retention Supervision and team leadership Three (3) to five (5) years of demonstrated knowledge of student development theory, crisis response protocols, FERPA regulations, and higher education policy environments. Must satisfactorily complete EOU criminal and credential background check. Having a criminal history is not an automatic bar to employment. Eastern Oregon University will not sponsor applicants for employment visas. Preferred Qualifications Training or certification related to threat assessment or crisis management. Three (3) to five (5) years of experience implementing student success technologies such as Slate, early alert systems, or engagement platforms. Three (3) to five (5) years of experience working with a behavioral assessment team.
