Job Description

Help Transform Science Education Through Humane Innovation Are you passionate about animal protection, education, and creating meaningful change? Do you enjoy building relationships, managing projects, and inspiring others? If so, we'd love to hear from you. Animalearn , a program of the American Anti-Vivisection Society (AAVS) , is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and mission-driven Assistant Director to help advance humane science education nationwide. For more than 35 years, Animalearn has empowered educators and students—from kindergarten through college—to replace harmful animal use in science education with innovative, effective, non-animal alternatives. Through The Science Bank , our free humane education loan program, we provide educators and students with cutting-edge models, simulations, and technology that foster scientific learning while promoting compassion and respect for all living beings. Job Responsibilities As Assistant Director, you'll play a key role in expanding Animalearn's impact by helping educators discover humane science solutions and supporting programs that inspire the next generation of compassionate scientists. Program Leadership Manage Animalearn's flagship program, The Science Bank using the Shopify platform, including shipping and receiving orders. Research, evaluate, purchase high-quality humane science education products. Build and maintain relationships with educational and scientific vendors. Help teachers/students identify the best non-animal resources that suit their needs. Outreach & Marketing Represent and promote Animalearn and The Science Bank at science education venues and animal advocacy events. Develop marketing campaigns using social media, e-mail, advertising, and other communication channels. Respond to inquiries from educators, students, and members of the public with professionalism and enthusiasm. Program Development Working closely with the Animalearn Director, you'll help plan and implement programs including: Humane Science Educator and Student of the Year Awards Professional development workshops New initiatives that expand humane science education Communications Create compelling content for a variety of audiences, including: Monthly e-mails Social media Printable resources including our new Humane Science Allies zine for kids What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and excited to contribute to a mission-driven organization. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education, Communications, Biology, Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, or a related field Three or more years of professional experience in an office, nonprofit, education, or related setting Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Strong organizational and project management abilities with exceptional attention to detail Ability to manage multiple projects independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues Experience with Microsoft Office, Shopify or other e-commerce platforms, social media, and online communication tools like Canva and Redbooth Veterinary technician or science education experience is a plus A genuine commitment to animal protection and humane science education We offer: Meaningful, mission-driven work A supportive and collaborative team environment Opportunities for professional growth and national networking Excellent benefits The salary range starts at $45,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
