Job Description

The Assistant Director of Leadership & Engagement will report directly to the Director of Leadership & Engagement and serve as a key staff member in the support and enhancement of extra-curricular engagement through the creation of programs for students, and by providing support services for student clubs and organizations. This position provides direction for extra-curricular student engagement including leadership development opportunities to facilitate student success and persistence of students at Susquehanna University. This position is defined as an exempt position under FSLA regulations. Some of the primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Oversee the development and implementation of positive educational, social, and developmental co-curricular activities and programs for the student body, including the bi-annual Activities Fair. Supervise the Student Activities Committee (SAC) programming board responsible for student body programming and events, including the Annual Concert, Spring Carnival, and Charlie's Lounge events. Supervise all Outdoor Recreation programming including management of on-campus rental equipment (bikes, lawn games, sports balls, etc.) and the coordination of both on campus recreational programming and off campus trips. Manage contract negotiation and budget oversight for programming and events in collaboration and alignment with vendor, risk management and insurance guidelines. Co-supervise the SGA Treasurer and finance committee and provide financial oversight of student clubs and organizations, facilitate required executive board and advisor training on finance policies and procedures, and monitor ledgers. Assist in the development and implementation of new student transition initiatives, such as Take Flight Orientation, Pre-Flight social programming, River Hawk Day, and Welcome Week programs. Serve as the primary administrator of the student engagement tracking software (Campus Groups) and the usage, training, and marketing of the platform. Promote the use of Trax for student programming collaborating with the Office of Events Management to support building and equipment upkeep. Recruit, hire, train, and supervise student interns and student employees to support student engagement programming and department operations including Charlie's Lounge, Club Management, and Outdoor Recreation Collaborate with departmental staff and campus partners with the development and execution of major university traditions and large-scale student program initiatives, such as Homecoming and Senior Week. Provide programmatic support to Leadership & Engagement professional staff in the management and execution of their initiatives and responsibilities to ensure a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community in support of student learning and development within the division of Student Life. Utilize student development theories in strategic planning of all student engagement initiatives including development of curriculum and programming, advising, training and supervising student leaders, and other important aspects of student engagement responsibilities. Education Bachelor's degree with two years of relative experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required. Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or related field preferred. Experience Minimum of two years of experience in student affairs with demonstrated success in planning and organizing small to large campus events required. Experience in supervising student employees required. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of project coordination and program design for undergraduate students; Knowledge of assessment including developing learning outcomes and using data to evaluate and adjust programmatic functions or services; Knowledge of student development theory, current issues, and emerging trends regarding persistence and retention of students; Ability to plan and organize small to large events; Knowledge of English language including meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar; Skilled at written and verbal communication, including formal presentation to groups; Ability to set priorities and advocate for team concepts; work collaboratively with faculty and staff. Additional Requirements This position requires occasional night and weekend work. This role is identified as one that includes significant interaction with students and/or campus activities, and/or has oversight for disciplinary procedures. Therefore, you are considered a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and required to report any Clery Act crime disclosed to you and remain compliant with annual CSA training requirements. Physical Demand Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to move about the campus. Position requires the ability to talk and to hear instruction. Position requires occasional manual dexterity and the ability to use fingers, hands, and arms to feel, handle, and reach. Position requires occasional stooping, crouching, and bending. Position requires the ability to occasionally lift to 30 pounds. Working conditions are indoor. Position requires occasional night and weekend hours.
