Job Description Summary:
The Associate Dean for Curriculum & Faculty provides strategic leadership for the development, quality, and continuous improvement of nursing curricula while advancing faculty effectiveness and academic excellence. The role ensures that programs remain current, evidence-based, and aligned with accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, and workforce needs. The Associate Dean oversees the work of the Curriculum Manager and Faculty Manager to coordinate curriculum operations, faculty development, and compliance processes across all nursing programs. Working closely with program Chairs, directors, and academic leadership, this position guides curriculum planning, program review, and faculty preparation to support high-quality nursing education.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Major Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to: Curriculum Leadership and Development Provide leadership for the design, revision, and implementation of curricula across nursing programs. Guide faculty in developing courses and learning experiences aligned with program learning outcomes and professional competencies. Ensure integration of evidence-based practice, simulation, interprofessional learning, and instructional innovation. Chair or support curriculum committees and coordinate faculty participation in curriculum planning. Curriculum Operations and Maintenance Supervise the Curriculum Manager in maintaining curriculum records, course approvals, catalog updates, and documentation of curricular changes. Ensure systematic processes for ongoing curriculum review and continuous improvement. Monitor alignment between course objectives, program outcomes, and assessment strategies. Ensure compliance with state board regulations, accreditation standards, and university academic policies. Program Review and Academic Assessment Lead periodic program review and evaluation processes across nursing programs. Oversee the collection and analysis of program outcomes such as student progression, licensure results, and graduate outcomes. Coordinate preparation of curriculum documentation for accreditation reviews and regulatory reporting. Work with program leadership to implement data-informed improvements to curriculum and instruction. Faculty Development and Training Supervise the Faculty Manager in coordinating faculty onboarding, orientation, and professional development initiatives. Support training in teaching strategies, course design, assessment methods, and instructional technology. Promote mentorship, peer support, and continuous professional growth among faculty. Faculty Compliance and Academic Standards Ensure faculty meet credentialing, qualification, and teaching assignment requirements established by accreditation and regulatory bodies. Oversee processes that track faculty qualifications, training, and compliance documentation. Guide academic policies, grading practices, and student evaluation standards. Leadership and Collaboration Provide supervision and direction to the Curriculum Manager and Faculty Manager. Collaborate with program directors, associate deans, and university leadership on academic planning and program quality. Promote consistency in curriculum standards and faculty expectations across programs. Contribute to strategic planning related to program innovation, faculty success, and academic quality. Minimum Qualifications & Requirements Education & Experience Earned a doctorate in nursing or education from an accredited institution of higher learning (e.g., PhD, DNP, DNAP, or EdD) Active, unencumbered license as a Registered nurse Active Certification in an APRN specialty Ranked at Associate Professor or Full Professor Demonstrated 5+ years of curricula development experience in various degree programs Demonstrated 5+ years of faculty development experience in various degree programs Demonstrated 5+ years of experience in academic administration Demonstrated 5+ years of experience in CCNE or COA accreditation Experience with different modalities for instructional delivery Skills Excellent written and oral communication Experience with Canvas, Exxat, Tableau, WorkDay, and PowerCampus Knowledgeable about undergraduate and graduate education and academic administration Excellent customer relations Abilities Ability to function effectively as an academic leader, member of a team, and independently Ability to receive detailed information through verbal and written communication Ability to read and write clear documents Hand and finger dexterity for computer, text, calculator, copy machine, and telephone use Must be able to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word in person or on the telephone

$126,234 to $138,000 based on experience Samuel Merritt University currently provides base salary ranges for all positions-on job advertisements-in the United States based on local requirements.
