Be the First to Apply Job Description Job Summary The Department Chair accepts the responsibility of providing leadership and maintaining administrative operations of the department in addition to performing the traditional academic duties of teaching, research, and service. The Department Chair reports to the Dean of the College. The workload balance between administration and traditional academic duties is determined by the Dean of the College in conjunction with the Chair. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge if general academic policies and curriculum issues. Knowledge of Tennessee Board of Regents policies. Knowledge of accreditation policies where appropriate. Ability to engage in constructive problem-solving and to make sound decisions. Ability to communicate effectively with faculty and staff within the department, college, university and diverse campus and community constituencies. Ability to work collaboratively with the leadership of other academic and administrative units to develop appropriate policies and/or programs. Ability to promote student success and a faculty excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. The successful candidate should expect to maintain an active program of research and teaching. Ability to work collaboratively within the college and university is essential Required Qualifications An earned terminal degree in a field recognized within the discipline. Meets eligibility for tenure. A solid record if teaching and scholarly activities required for a minimal appointment to the rank of associate professor. Compensation and Benefits Salary - $12,000 per year - no benefits (This is a temporary position) Application Instructions Exempt positions are required to be posted for a minimum of fourteen (14) calendar days.
