Job Summary The Program Manager for the Southwest Ag Center plays a critical leadership role by translating academic research and educational initiatives into impactful solutions for rural and agricultural communities. Working in close collaboration with the Program Director, this position manages employees, interns, and volunteers while overseeing daily operational, administrative, and grant-funded activities to ensure efficient program execution. As the primary occupational & environmental education administrator, the Program Manager leads the development of community outreach initiatives and multi-platform communication strategies. In this capacity, they manage educational events, maintain strategic partnerships, and facilitate continuous dialogue among researchers, stakeholders, and regional audiences. Through these efforts, the Program Manager ensures that vital research findings, prevention strategies, and educational resources are effectively disseminated throughout the service region. The Program Manager exercises independent judgment in planning communications strategies, developing outreach programs, creating content, managing projects, coordinating events, maintaining partnerships, evaluating program effectiveness, and prioritizing operational activities within established grant, departmental, and institutional guidelines. Key Responsibilities Outreach, Education & Partnership Development Develop and maintain relationships with agricultural, rural, industry, community, and governmental partners to support outreach and education initiatives. Implement, and evaluate educational and community-based programs that promote occupational safety and health. Deliver presentations, injury prevention trainings, workshops, and educational sessions for diverse audiences. Distribute educational resources and collect program evaluation data to measure effectiveness. Assist with translating research findings into practical applications and outreach activities. Represent the organization at meetings, conferences, workshops, and public events as a presenter, exhibitor, or participant. Promote and oversee a regional Outreach Mini-Grant Program. Communications & Content Strategy Develop and execute communication strategies that support organizational goals and increase stakeholder engagement. Create, edit, and manage content for websites, newsletters, blogs, articles, fact sheets, brochures, presentations, reports, videos, podcasts, press releases, social media platforms, and other communication channels. Maintain consistent messaging, branding, and audience-focused communications across all platforms. Manage and update websites, social media accounts, and digital communication tools. Monitor engagement metrics, web analytics, and communication performance measures to improve outreach effectiveness. Manage media requests and support dissemination of research, educational materials, and best practices. Program Administration & Operations Manage logistics for meetings, conferences, training, research activities, outreach events, and travel arrangements. Prepare and manage program budgets, purchasing activities, and supply inventories. Maintain distribution lists, databases, records, archives, images, activity logs, and reporting systems. Fulfill requests for educational and promotional materials and oversee inventory management. Ensure compliance with grant requirements, institutional policies, reporting obligations, and internal controls. Prepare reports, summaries, and documentation for grant activities and leadership review, as well as contribute to the development and writing of related scholarly works. Technology & Information Management Maintain content management systems, digital asset management systems, and data tracking platforms. Support implementation and maintenance of web technologies, communication software, and outreach tools. Organize and preserve program records, digital assets, and historical documentation. Provide technical support and guidance related to communications and outreach technologies. Team Support Provide oversight and management of interns, and volunteers in outreach, communications, and administrative processes. Work collaboratively with faculty, researchers, staff, and community stakeholders to accomplish program objectives. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Education/Experience Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Communication, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Education, Business, Public Health, Agricultural Education, Agricultural Business, or a closely related field. Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in communications, marketing, outreach, education, program coordination, public relations, or related fields. Experience developing and delivering presentations and educational programs. Experience creating written and digital communication products for diverse audiences. Preferred Education/Experience Master's degree in a related field. Experience with agricultural, rural, public health, occupational safety, or Extension-related programs. Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency. Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong content development, editing, storytelling, and audience engagement abilities. Knowledge of social media management, website administration, and digital communications. Experience with content management systems, web analytics, email marketing, and Microsoft Office applications. Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Knowledge of evaluation methods, reporting practices, and stakeholder engagement strategies. Working Environment Primarily office and administrative environment.
