Job Description:
Longwood University invites applications for the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement (FA166) in our Alumni Engagement office. The Assistant Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing a comprehensive portfolio of alumni engagement initiatives that foster lifelong relationships between alumni and Longwood University. Reporting to the Senior Director of Alumni Engagement, this position provides operational leadership for regional and affinity-based programming, volunteer engagement, signature events, student-to-alumni transition initiatives, and alumni communications while supporting data-informed decision-making and engagement assessment. The Assistant Director collaborates with alumni leaders, campus partners, and community organizations to create meaningful opportunities for alumni connection and involvement that advance the university's engagement, fundraising, and strategic priorities. This position serves as an ambassador for Longwood University and requires regular travel, including evenings and weekends, to represent the university and support alumni engagement activities both on and off campus. This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties :
Lead the planning, implementation, and assessment of a comprehensive portfolio of alumni engagement opportunities designed to strengthen lifelong relationships with Longwood University. Develop and sustain meaningful volunteer opportunities that deepen alumni engagement and expand Longwood's volunteer network. Provide operational leadership for major alumni programs while ensuring a high-quality participant experience. Support strategic alumni engagement through communications, technology, and assessment. Build collaborative relationships that strengthen alumni engagement across the university.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Two to four years of progressively responsible experience in alumni relations, higher education, advancement, nonprofit management, volunteer management, event management, or a related field. Demonstrated experience planning, implementing, and evaluating programs, events, or engagement initiatives. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse constituencies. Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues, volunteers, campus partners, and external stakeholders. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience utilizing constituent relationship management (CRM) or database systems. Ability to work evenings and weekends as required to support alumni engagement initiatives and university events. Ability to travel regularly, Valid driver's license and the ability to travel independently on a regular basis, including day trips and occasional overnight travel, to represent Longwood University at regional alumni programs and university events.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in alumni relations, advancement, or higher education. Experience supervising professional staff, student employees, interns, or volunteers. Knowledge of fundraising, donor stewardship, and advancement best practices. Extensive knowledge of Longwood University, its history, traditions, alumni community, and institutional culture. Longwood University alumnus/alumna or demonstrated familiarity with the university's mission and traditions.
Additional Information:
This position is a full-time, administrative and professional faculty, exempt position. The anticipated salary range for this position is $40,000 - $42,000.
