Position Summary The Manager, Simulation and Experiential Learning is responsible for the overall direction and leadership of operational, financial, and staff activities to support excellence in simulation-based learning in the School of Health Sciences. This position reports to the Dean, School of Health Sciences and in collaboration with the simulation center staff and faculty is responsible for supporting ongoing use of simulation-based learning pedagogies to enhance student learning experiences. The Manager will be responsible for coordinating the Centre's operations in order to maximize efficiencies in the utilization of space, staff and supplies. Duties & Responsibilities Strategic and Operational Planning and Management Provides strategic direction and oversight for the design, implementation and assessment of operational needs simulation activities including lab space, inventory management, and equipment status (warranty, end of life cycle). Actively participates in planning and communications between health science programs to coordinate simulation and experiential learning across programs. Participates in the development of capital equipment purchases, vendor meetings and selection. Collaborates with faculty on reviewing existing and recommending new policies and procedures for effective simulation activity operation and usage. Develops and implements new business opportunities for optimizing simulated learning space utilization. Assesses quality, safety, and staffing concerns and addresses and rectifies issues on a timely basis. Represents VCC and participates in province-wide simulation collaboration efforts and represents VCC in national professional organizations. Provides recommendation to the Dean and Associate Director on developing and sustaining leading edge simulated learning experiences and spaces. Oversees the scheduling and delivery for laboratory practice, low and high-fidelity simulation for all health science programs. Develops and implements strategies to increase efficient usage of the simulation space. Develops, implements and monitors quality control practices pertaining to infection control to ensure faculty and student safety. Maintains and promotes adherence to policies and procedures related to the safe operations of the equipment and facilities. Collaborates with the Practice Education Coordinator, faculty and staff to deliver simulation education programming relevant to the practice setting. Technical Designs, and implements a comprehensive technical training program for Simulation Centre staff and faculty. Provides oversight ensuring quality assurance and compliance by adhering to the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) Standards of Best Practice in Simulation and the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) accreditation standards. Oversees the management and maintenance of the simulation center, including the procurement, inventory, and maintenance of simulation equipment and supplies. Implements strategies to ensure the seamless operation of the Simulation Center, including capital and human resources. Provides strategic direction and comprehensive oversight to ensure optimum operating environment for staff, Faculty and students. Finance Prepares and manages operations and capital budget for the Simulation Center in consultation with the Dean and Associate Director. Oversees capital equipment maintenance and renewal. Leadership and HR Management Provides leadership and direction to assigned staff. Participates in the recruitment, promotion, evaluation, training and development, and performance management of staff within defined by college policy and Collective Agreements. In conjunction with the Associate Director, establishes clear performance expectations for direct reports to ensure the realization of strategic and operational objectives. Contributes to effective employee and labour relations by administering the collective agreement, representing management in the grievance process and consulting with People Services Department regarding collective agreement interpretation. Performs other duties as required. Qualifications Education and Experience Degree in Nursing or health related field. Five (5) years of related experience including two (2) years supervising employees. Experience managing a health related simulation lab preferred. Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Skills and Abilities Proven knowledge of health sciences simulation. Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership in an academic environment with a diverse student staff population. Proven experience in employee recruitment, selection and performance management in a unionized environment. Strong effective communication, team building, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to lead a team in a very fast-paced, complex and changing work environment. Proven knowledge of systems used in planning, organizing and establishing workflow schedules. Knowledge of quality improvement, leadership and decision-making processes. Demonstrated skill in the use of computer software applications, such as MS Office with proven ability to produce spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations. Sound judgment and professionalism, and demonstrated ability to act tactfully, diplomatically, and with discretion in all contexts, internally and externally. Proven management experience including budget planning and management, and employee supervision, and process control. Supplemental Information $ 94,443

Normal starting salary placement is between $ 94,443 and $125,924 . Compensation beyond the control/mid-point requires approval by the Public Sector Employer's Council Secretariat ( PSEC ).
