PURPOSE STATEMENT
The learning specialist will work collaboratively with classroom teachers and the building team to provide support for all students to make growth toward meeting grade level standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist with the implementation of instructional activities aligned with building goals, district curriculum, and standards. Support teachers in meeting individual student needs by reviewing student data, identifying appropriate strategies, and collaborating on instructional planning. Assist with the coordination of student support services in collaboration with building teams, including services for ELL, special education, and other identified groups. Maintain accurate and current records related to student supports, services, and progress. Develop, manage, and monitor Section 504 plans in accordance with legal and district guidelines. Lead building-level support meetings such as Student Support Team (SST), Multi-Tiered Systems of Support meetings with grade level teams (MTSS), STAT (Student Teacher Assistance Team), and Housekeeping meetings, including scheduling, agenda setting, and follow-up coordination. Use, update and create spreadsheets for data collection and meeting tracking. Navigate and analyze data in all district assessment platforms (mCLASS, iReady, Qmlativ, IEP Online, etc.). Possess exceptional organizational skills to provide systematized support to the entire building. Assist with the coordination and implementation of assessments, including building or district-level testing. Assist with responding to student behavior concerns by collaborating with staff to identify strategies and supports aligned with schoolwide expectations. Serve as a resource and support for staff in interpreting data and using it to inform instruction and interventions. Assist in maintaining a safe and productive learning environment in collaboration with staff and school teams. Assist in the planning and development of the building's master schedule to support instructional and student support needs. Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with staff, administrators, parents/legal guardians, support groups, and community members. Perform related duties as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Building Administrator.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with K-8 Elementary Education endorsement. Experience using instructional strategies that are effective with diverse learners. Prior teaching experience is preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Bilingual English/Spanish required. Knowledge/awareness of own cultural identity and how this influences behavior, and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others. Ability to establish and nurture an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of staff, students, and patrons of the district Advocate for equity, inclusion and professional practices that ensure all students achieve at high levels. Knowledge of SEL practices and approaches. Knowledge and skill in instructional principles, methods and techniques. Commitment and ability to work with a full range of students. Skill in student management, student discipline and developing positive techniques for improving student behavior. Must possess a positive attitude about change and an eagerness to implement changes that will enhance student learning. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to establish and maintain positive effective working relationships with a variety of students, staff, and community in a multicultural and diverse socio-economic setting. Ability to participate collaboratively in teams. Ability to continue participation in staff development to maintain professional skills. Ability to serve as a role model and treat students as individuals in a professional manner. Ability to follow appropriate guidelines and protocols to ensure a safe and engaging learning environment. Licenses/Special Requirements Must maintain all licenses and certifications as a condition of continued employment. Completed Employment Application/ Background Check. Must complete Walla Walla Public Schools Risk Management and Bloodborne Pathogens Training upon hire.
