Job Description:
Brookline Social Studies teachers guide students to make personal connections to history and geography and appreciate historical contributions of individuals and groups. Duties include but are not limited to: Demonstrating appropriate long and short term preparation for classroom instruction Holding high expectations for all students and serving as a facilitator of student learning Organizing and using a variety of teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technology to maximize the learning of each child, individually and in group settings Assessing student progress, providing students and parents with specific feedback, and using the results to adjust instruction as needed Providing opportunities for academic support and challenge Taking responsibility for teaching the district learning expectations as outlined in the curriculum documents Demonstrating an understanding of how knowledge in the subject areas is created, organized, and linked to other disciplines and life experiences Keeping abreast of current developments in the field and continue to deepen understanding of the discipline(s) Establishing and maintaining a functional, attractive, orderly, and safe classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and builds a sense of community
Requirements Qualifications:
Knowledge about Middle School philosophy and the developmental needs of adolescents Ability to present the curriculum using an inquiry approach An academic background in social studies Ability to differentiate instruction and assess learning using a variety of methods A strong foundation in student-centered pedagogy Bachelor's Degree Major or minor in content area DESE certification, Political Science/Political Philosophy, 5-8 or Social Studies, 5-8 SEI endorsement
Preferred Qualifications:
