Buckingham Browne & Nichols School (BB&N) seeks a full-time, dynamic, student-centered Upper School History teacher to cover a leave of absence from September 2026 to December 2026. The History teacher will teach four sections of Upper School History, including Global History and/or U.S. History. We are seeking a knowledgeable History teacher who values student voice and agency, utilizes a variety of pedagogical approaches, can work independently, and is excited to work as part of a team in curriculum development. Candidates should befortable working with colleagues in designing, innovating, and delivering a curriculum that incorporates skill development, metacognition, and culturalpetency, and that caters to a range of student learners. Additional responsibilities will vary according to current program needs and new initiatives as determined by the Department Chair and the Upper School Director.Qualifications:
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Key functions for this position include, but are not limited to: Plans and develops an engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to educational best practices and curriculum guidelines. Prepares materials for lessons, assignments, and tests; evaluates, corrects, and grades student performance. Supervises the behavior of students in the classroom, school grounds, and educational trips and discusses academic difficulties or behavioral problems with students as they arise. Communicates progress and concerns with tact and professionalism to parents and, as appropriate, other faculty, staff, and/or campus Director. Builds and maintains positive relationships with parents, students, and colleagues. Enforces safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitors. Maintains required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records. Monitors halls, study periods, and lunchrooms with other faculty and staff. Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars. Maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices. Performs other related duties as assigned.Requirements, Skills, and Competencies:
BB&N seeks candidates who: Hold an undergraduate degree in history or a related field. An advanced degree in history, education, or a similar field is preferred. Have teaching experience and an educational background in United States history and modern Global History. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching history at the high school level. Possess a passion for history and teaching that contributes to a dynamic and engaging classroom experience for students. Balance pedagogical approaches to teaching (inquiry-based, small group work, seminar discussions, socratic conversations, project and problem-based assignments, etc.). Work effectively with a diverse group of people, including students, parents, faculty, and staff. Thrive as part of a collaborative team of colleagues within the History Department and with teachers in other disciplines. Demonstrate dedication to supporting adolescent growth and development. Value advancing students' knowledge and affirmation of themselves and others. Commits to working in and fostering an inclusivemunity by advancing the efforts of anti-racism and equity in their classes and the broadermunitySalary:
$69,500.00 - $115,754.00 (prorated for leave time) BB&N offerspetitive salaries and benefits, employing equitable and consistentpensation practices. The starting salary for any hired candidate is based on experience within salary bands (0-30 years). Compensation for eligible full-time and part-time employees includes a 403(b) plan with up to a 10% match of salary and otherpetitive benefits offerings.
