Long term substitute in our Social Studies department from October-December; approximately 45 days
- Teach assigned Social Studies courses according to the schools curriculum, Massachusetts standards, and established course plans.
- Follow lesson plans and instructional materials left by the regular classroom teacher, while adapting instruction when appropriate to student needs.
- Provide daily classroom instruction, including lectures, discussions, activities, projects, assessments, and other learning experiences.
- Maintain a structured, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment consistent with school policies.
- Take and maintain accurate daily attendance and student records.
- Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback on assignments, projects, and assessments.
- Administer quizzes, tests, and other assessments and maintain appropriate grades and documentation.
- Support students with different learning needs and implement accommodations specified in students educational plans, as directed by the school.
- Collaborate with special education teachers, vocational instructors, guidance counselors, administrators, and other members of the school community to support student success.
- Communicate appropriately with students, families, and staff regarding academic progress, classroom expectations, and student concerns.
- Maintain classroom routines, manage student behavior, and follow established disciplinary and referral procedures.
- Supervise students in accordance with school policies, including during class transitions, activities, and other assigned duties.
- Integrate literacy, critical thinking, research, civic engagement, and analysis of historical and contemporary issues into Social Studies instruction.
- Connect academic Social Studies content to the career and technical education environment, including workplace readiness, civics, economics, government, and contemporary issues where appropriate.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information and comply with applicable school, district, and Massachusetts requirements.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, department activities, and other duties expected of long-term substitute teachers.
- Maintain continuity of instruction and classroom operations throughout the long-term substitute assignment, including leaving appropriate records and information for the returning teacher.
