Job Description:
Part-time HSE faculty provide effective instruction that prepares students to pass the New York State High School Equivalency (GED®) exam. Faculty teach the core subject areas of the exam, develop and implement lessons using contextualized curricula, and foster a supportive, student-centered learning environment. Instructors must be skilled in engaging a diverse, non-traditional student population and dedicated to helping students acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve their high school equivalency. In addition to teaching, instructors are expected to:
  • Establish and maintain an organized and supportive classroom environment.
  • Complete timesheets, update attendance rosters, and meet all reporting deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate academic progress records.
  • Collaborate effectively with fellow instructors, administrators, and site partners.
  • Communicate regularly with the program coordinator regarding student progress and classroom matters.
Candidates may be required to complete a proficiency test in one or more GED® subject areas. Daytime and evening hours are available at the Family Partnership Center and other locations throughout Dutchess County. Online teaching opportunities are also available during both daytime and evening hours.
Requirements:
Minimum Requirements:
  • Associate degree.
  • At least one (1) year of teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree.
  • Experience teaching in HSE (GED®) preparation programs.
  • Prior K-12 teaching experience.
  • Experience developing thematic-based or contextualized curricula.
  • Competency in all four GED® subject areas: Math, Science, Social Studies, and Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA).

In-person classes may be held in Poughkeepsie, Dover, and other assigned sites within Dutchess County.

Hourly Rate:
$20-$31 per hour, commensurate with education and experience. All applicants are subject to a background check to include criminal, employment, and education.
