Job Overview We are seeking a full-time classroom teacher to join our team. A teacher at Forest Hills Lutheran Christian School will be an active member of a Christian church, preferably a congregation of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and will have demonstrated a commitment to Christ, children, and Christian education. They will hold a current Oregon teaching license, and will be listed on the Roster of Teachers of the LCMS or willing to complete coursework which equips the teacher for service in a Lutheran school context. Accountability A teacher is accountable to the Principal. Teachers are expected to work collaboratively with one another toward the duties listed below. A teacher evaluation by the Principal will occur on an annual basis. Specifically, the teacher will be required to fulfill the following duties: 1.

Fostering Effective Relationships Teachers will:

value all students, respecting their God-given gifts and human dignity. Teachers will know how to establish, with different students, professional relationships that are characterized by mutual respect, trust, Christian love and harmony. understand the importance of engaging parents, purposefully and meaningfully, in all aspects of teaching and learning. They know how to develop and implement strategies that create and enhance partnerships among teachers, parents and students. establish and maintain partnerships among school, home, church and community, and within the school they will collaborate with others to maximize the effectiveness of the entire school, not just their own classrooms. understand the legislated, moral and ethical frameworks within which they work. They will set a positive example of Christian living and leadership both in and out of school, including regular worship and study of God's Word, and they will serve as ambassadors of the school in the larger community. 2. Planning for Understanding and Success Teachers will: plan intentionally and effectively, ensuring that instruction flows from the Curriculum Subject Areas, integrates the Christian faith in appropriate and authentic ways, addresses the diverse needs of the learners, and engages students as they uncover deep understanding of the main concepts (big ideas) in the curriculum. This planning may include year plans, unit plans and/or daily lesson plans. 3. Engaging Students through Effective Instruction Teachers will: understand the subject disciplines (knowledge, concepts, methodologies and assumptions) they teach and stay current on the subject matter. Their understanding will extend to relevant technologies, the linkages among subject disciplines, how the Christian faith impacts the subject matter, and the relevance and importance the subject matter has to everyday life. translate curriculum content and objectives included in the Curriculum Subject Areas into meaningful and varied learning activities that lead to true understanding of core concepts, clearly communicate learning goals to their students, commit to teaching God's word faithfully (according to the doctrinal standards of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod) and will work to integrate this faith instruction into all subjects in authentic and meaningful ways. The teachers will encourage students to not only learn the faith, but live it daily. apply a variety of technologies and tools to meet students' diverse learning needs and maximize student engagement. 4. Implementing Balanced Assessment Strategies Teachers will: Implement a plan of formative and summative assessments to gather information about students' learning needs and progress, and use that information to help students achieve their learning goals, adjust teaching strategies to maximize learning for all students, and report student progress in an effective, accurate and fair way, focusing on celebrations of learning and goal setting for future growth. 5. Establishing Positive and Safe Learning Environments Teachers will: Create and maintain environments that are caring, positive, disciplined, safe and conducive to student learning by establishing a grace-filled culture that values each learner as a masterpiece of God, establishing routines, proactively addressing concerns, and responding to student behavioral issues appropriately, correctly balancing the enforcement of godly standards with unconditional love and forgiveness. 6. Engaging in Career-Long Professional Learning Teachers will: Engage in ongoing and strategic professional development and spiritual growth, both individually and as a whole staff (including staff devotions) to enhance their effectiveness in the classroom and Christian school, modeling the value of life-long learning. 7.

Completing Administrative Responsibilities Teachers will:

Diligently complete administrative responsibilities as required by legislation, policy, and their principal. Examples of such responsibilities include keeping attendance records, attending staff meetings, participating in school projects and initiatives, and utilizing technological communication tools.
